Morgan’s Proof of Review Heat & Energy

Heat Radiation Conduction Convection

Radiation The transfer of heat energy by electromagnetic waves. The suns heat gets to earth by electromagnetic waves. Heat from a fire is another example of radiation. Heat from a pellet stove is also an example of radiation.

Convection The transfer of heat energy within liquids and gasses by hotter molecules rising and cooler molecules falling down. Convection is the warm water vapor that rises into the air during evaporation. The balloon experiment did in class.

Conduction The transfer of heat energy within a solid object or between two (or more) objects that are touching. Conduction is a hand getting burned by touching a hot pan on a stove.

Heat ( energy that can do work) cold lost heat (example) ice cube temurature Measure of heat Use it to check the tem. insulator Traps heat (example) metal

Review 1.)Convection is………………..?????????? 2.)conduction is…………….....?????????? 3.)radiation is …………………??????????? 4.)what is cold……………......?????????? 5.)what is temperature…….??????????? 6.)what is an insulator……….??????????? Answers on next page

Answers (Don’t just look right at the answers think about it) 1.)when hot air rises and cold air fall down 2.)when a hot thing touches a cold thing and makes the cold thing hot. 3.)the transfer of heat energy by electromagnetic waves 4.)lost heat 5.)a measure of heat 6.)an object that traps heat

Energy Can neither be created nor destroyed The ability to do work

Potential energy Stored energy

Kinetic energy Motion energy

Mechanical energy Any motion
