William Penn was a Quaker - a religious group that believed all Christians should be free to worship in their own way.
Penn was granted the colony of Pennsylvania by the King of England, because of a debt to his family.

Pennsylvania became a place where all Christians could live in peace.
A later grant of more land eventually became Delaware.
