6 PROCICARIBE Mechanism 4 th FORAGRO Meeting – Panama, 13-15 April 2005 Francis Asiedu EVOLUTION FUNDING & OPERATIONS: 1998-2000 Funding:  IDB (& IICA, CARDI, FAO, CTA, CGIAR, ISNAR) Establishment of 8 networks:  CAPGERNet, CAPHNet, CARIFRUIT, CARIVEG, CAROT, CASRUNet, CIPMNet, CLAWRENet Incorporation of 4 existing autonomous networks:  CAIS, CAMID, CARINet, CRIDENet

8 PROCICARIBE Mechanism 4 th FORAGRO Meeting – Panama, 13-15 April 2005 Francis Asiedu EVOLUTION PROCICARIBE REVIEW: 2003/2004 PROCICARIBE reviewed during 2003/4 Key findings:  Confirmed concerns of stakeholders  Weak foundation of PROCICARIBE NARs low R & D capacity Poor culture of networking  Most successful networks were the four autonomous networks  CIPMNet and CASRUNet successful established networks
