1 Northamptonshire October 2010 – September 2011 1 Full calendar year Needle Exchange and Supervised Consumption

2 Supervised Consumption Since October 2010, 386 clients have been on the Supervised Consumption plan. Each client had an average of 74.05 supervisions (399 last year) A total of 28,511 (last year 39,896 ) appointments have been handled by the pharmacies across the county with the majority of supervisions taking place in the Northampton district. (Please note that this is Pharmacy address, not client address)

3 Supervised Consumption Over the 12 months analysed, all pharmacies on the scheme completed ServicePact with their data.

4 Supervised Consumption The split between males and females is 70% to 30%. Over twice as many men than women. This is relatively comparable to the treatment system. There is a varying range of ages amongst the clients, with the highest concentration in the 30-34 age group

5 Supervised Consumption The majority of medication being supervised is Methadone, with 81.5% and the other 18.5% being prescribed Subutex

6 Supervised Consumption Of the 28,511 appointments, 15.2% were taken away (13.4% last year) and 5.3% were missed. 7 appointments were refused

7 Needle Exchange Since October 2010, 4,064 clients have accessed the Needle Exchanges across the county (4,103 last year) A total of 10,949 contacts were made (11,837 last year), with the highest concentration again in the Northampton District This is an average of 2.7 contacts per client (2.9 last year). This is a decrease on previous years

8 Needle Exchange The Data is from Pharmacies using ServicePact, and Time2Talk from October 2010 to September 2011. This contains no Static data for this period

9 Needle Exchange The split between males and females is 80% to 20%. 4 times more men than women There is a varying range of ages amongst the clients, with the highest concentration in the 30-34 age group

10 Needle Exchange Of the 4,064 clients, 242 clients stated that they were collecting for someone else (272 last year)

11 Needle Exchange The percentage of collections of clean needle packs where a return was made of used needles or boxes was 18.9% across the county. This is an decrease on previous years (22.4% last year)
