2 Panama Canal  The Panama Canal is a ship canal in Panama that connected both oceans, Atlantic and Pacific.  It is being used for maritime international trade. Maritime International trade is where trades occurred.  It was built to shorten the trips and trade route.  Panama Canal is located in Panama between Latin America and South America.  Roosevelt supported the project which he thought that the Panama Canal would attract attention to U.S.

3 How was Theodore Roosevelt involved with Panama Canal?  Roosevelt strongly believed in growing American power. In order to do this, Roosevelt required a strong navy. Roosevelt wanted a way for the navy to navigate quickly between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Roosevelt decided to build that canal.  Roosevelt wanted to shorten up the route for trade and commercial importance.  There was hope that its accomplishment would lead to better worldwide relations after San Francisco held the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Debate.

4 Facts about the Panama Canal  More than 25,000 workers died from canal construction. Death causes are known as difficult obstacles, challenging terrain, hot, humid weather, heavy rainfall and rampant tropical diseases.  Canal was being used by between 13,000 and 14,000 ships every year.  America wanted to build a canal in Nicaragua, not in Panama.  The canal is 48 miles long.
