3 Qualidata resources on childhood I SN 4855 -Adolescent Health and Parenting : Young People, Health and Family Life, 1989-1992, Brannen, J. and Oakley, A. This project focused on 15-17 year olds and their families, and examined how transitions from childhood to adulthood were, or were not, related to autonomy in the area of health and health care behaviour. SN 2738 -Substance Abuse and Perceptions of Risk : Young People's Attitudes to Personal Health, 1990, Denscombe, M. Survey of attitudes towards, and use of, alcohol, tobacco and other drugs by 15-16 year olds in Leicestershire with specific reference to risk-taking. The study focused on influence and changes in physical activity behaviour in association with individual perceptions, beliefs, attitudes and expectations regarding physical pain. SN 4073 -Girls' and Boys' Body Image Concerns, 1997, Lloyd, B. and Dittmar, H. The main aim of this project was to broaden and deepen understanding of 'normal' adolescent boys' and girls' body image concerns, in order to provide an appropriate basis for interventions aimed at promoting healthier diets and lifestyles. Adolescents in Year 8, 10 and 12 talked about their feelings concerning body parts, fatness, physical attractiveness, media and peer influences, and strategies for achieving the 'ideal body'.

4 Qualidata resources on childhood II SN 4586 -Children and Welfare : Negotiating Pathways, 1998-1999, Hallett, C., Fuller, R., Murray, C. and Punch, S. This study explored young people's perceptions of their worries and problems, their negotiations, coping strategies and their help-seeking behaviour. SN 5100 -Transition out of the Parental Home in Britain, Spain and Norway, 2001-2002, Holdsworth, C. This research project explored the relative importance of both structural factors, such as access to higher education, labour and housing market conditions and culturally defined norms on leaving home in three European countries: Britain, Spain and Norway. SN 4880 -Folk Devils and Moral Panics : the Creation of the Mods and Rockers, 1964-1967, Cohen, S. The focus of this study was on the genesis and development of the moral panic and social typing associated with the 1960s phenomenon of Mods and Rockers. It looked at the ways in which their deviant behaviour was perceived and conceptualised. AND MANY MORE….

5 Quantitative resources on childhood Old friends: NCDS, BCS70, MCS Youth Cohort Study (England&Wales) Research designed to monitor the behaviour and decisions of representative samples of young people aged sixteen upwards as they complete compulsory education. The Childcare and Early Years Provision: Providers' Survey, 2005 This is a continuation of a time series data collection that began in 2001, aimed at tracking the characteristics of providers and the childcare workforce in England.
