5 Identifying and Engaging Target Markets What do people search for when they look for people in your profession? You have to show up! Do they look for your title? Do they look for the problem you solve? Search for people that you want to associate with Save a list Read the profiles (hint look for common interest) They may see you! Search Groups It’s engagement time Reach out with ANSWERS Post to discussions Post profile updates

6 Create Engaging Messages Use your inbox You can send messages and respond to them here See all of your invitations and invite them to do something Join a group view View an interesting post Q&A in answers Respond to open questions (get BEST ANSWER!) Ask your own POWER QUESTION (Challenge!) Point it anywhere you like Always ask a question that inspires further dialog at the end of any communication How would you feel if this happened to you? When was the last time you had to deal with that? What made you decide to do it that way?

7 Market your professional expertise LinkedIn does the heavy lifting for you Set up your profile correctly (more on this later) List previous experience and accomplishments Join active groups that are relevant to you Participate in discussions (don’t forget to set up discussion e-mail) Get your friends to give you feedback on your profile Have your friends share your profile and cc you! Answer questions (always give this your best). Don’t forget to ask for the expert rating Get and give as many recommendations as you can! You can share recommendations in other places later

Do you want: To sell a product or service To build your network To find a new opportunity No matter what you want, you’re going to have to behave in the right way to get it done. Here are some NO-NO’s that should help: Never connect to people that you don’t know, like and trust. If you do, develop a process to create trust quickly Never bad mouth or accuse others on the web. Never market yourself unless there is a call to do so, the same goes for tips and opinions.
