Eat and Drink but waste not by Extravagance

“And waste not by extravagance. Verily, He likes not Al-Musrifûn (those who waste by extravagance)” (Al-Quran 6:141)

“But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift. Verily, the spendthrifts are brothers of the Shayaateen (devils), and the Shaytaan (Devil ‑ Satan) is ever ungrateful to his Lord” [Al-Quran’ 17:26-27]

Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) commanded us to wipe the dish because we do not know in what portion of our food the blessing lies. [Sahih Muslim 5049] Before eatingAfter eating

“So, by your Lord (O Muhammad SAW), We shall certainly call all of them to account.” (Al- Quran 15:92)

HOW WILL WE ACCOUNT FOR THIS?

The Prophet (peace be upon him) never criticized any food (he was invited to) but he used to eat if he liked the food, and leave it if he disliked it. [Al Bukhari 320]

“…eat and drink but waste not by extravagance, certainly He (Allâh) likes not Al-Musrifûn (those who waste by extravagance).” (Al- Quran 7:31)

The Prophet (SAW) has said that the son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach…..If he must fill it, then 1/3 for his food, 1/3 for his drink, and 1/3 for air. [At-Trimidhi 2380]

The one who eats his fill the most, in this world, will be hungry for the longest time on the Day of Resurrection. [ At-Tirmidhi 2015 ]

Prophet (SAW) said "The food for two persons is sufficient for three, and the food of three persons is sufficient for four persons.“ [ Al Bukhari 304]

A Poem ‘THE MORSEL THAT GOT LEFT BEHIND’ To get it there how much effort it takes The unconsumed food, be it meat, fruit or bread Nothing short of amazing, the path it has tread Ever thought of the morsel that got left on our plates

Let's take the bread, so easy to throw But the wheat it comes from, took months to grow. The soil was tilled, the weeds taken out Fertilizer and nutrients were placed in the ground

Once the seeds were planted, it was important to check That the plants were free from disease and insects Many months later came harvest time When the wheat heads 'nodded' then came cutting time

Then came the shaking out of the heads The kernel was separated from all of the rest Once the removal of impurities was done The wheat was broken down, so that separation could be done

From coarse particles to flour also took time It was again a long process to bleach and refine

From the mill to the markets was no short road From there, to the factory that bakes bread and rolls

It's a lot of hard work, all down the line Not to mention the money and all of that time

So let's think again when we're tempted to leave That morsel of food - what a waste it would be! Be it veggies, fruit, meat, how it got to your plate It's a similar road like that bread had to take

It's such a shame that others somewhere Are starving to death, while we don't care

So you and I, let's make a pact Leaving food on our plates - No More Of That. * * * *
