Wound Healing Physiology Chutes and Ladders Instructions: First, macros must be enabled. If you have Office 2007, there should be a message below the ribbon that says macros have been disabled and shows an Options button. Click the Options button and choose Enable. For any other version of Office, go to Tools, then Security, then Macros, and choose the Medium setting. Then close and re-open the Chutes and Ladders file. 3 Congratulations!

True or False Acute wounds proceed through the processes involved in wound healing in an orderly and timely manner CorrectWrong

True or False Viability of tissues does not determine the course and quality of healing CorrectWrong

Name two wound healing models CorrectWrong

What are the two most common reasons for leaving a surgical wound open to heal by secondary intention? a.To allow for the wound to drain b.To allow for the treatment of bacterial burden c.To reduce the chance of scar tissue formation d.A + C e.A + B CorrectWrong

True or False Chronic wounds are those which have failed to proceed though an orderly and timely process to produce anatomic and functional integrity CorrectWrong

Name the three (or four) phases of wound healing CorrectWrong

True or False The inflammatory phase typically lasts two weeks CorrectWrong

What are the typical signs/symptoms of the inflammatory phase? a.Redness b.Heat c.Swelling d.Pain e.Loss of function f.All of the above g.None of the above, these signs absolutely mean the wound is infected in this stage CorrectWrong

Which of the following are goals of the proliferative phase of wound healing (choose four)? 1.Formation of granulation tissue 2.Angiogenesis 3.Contraction 4.Epithelialization 5.Hemostasis CorrectWrong

At maximum potential, the tensile strength of a healed wound will not exceed ___% of the original tissue CorrectWrong

True or False The maturation phase starts by three weeks after injury and continues until the wound is closed at the surface CorrectWrong

Other than extrinsic factors, what are the other two categories of factors that can impede wound healing? CorrectWrong

Iatrogenic factors impairing wound healing are factors associated with: a.The underlying etiology of the wound b.Environmental influences c.Inappropriate wound management CorrectWrong

True or False As the skin ages elastin fibers increase which makes the skin more elastic CorrectWrong

People with diabetes are at higher risk of slower wound healing because of: a.Hyperglycemia b.Microvascular/neuropathic components c.All of the above CorrectWrong

Choose the three factors that are considered extrinsic in nature: a.Medications b.Traumatic dressing removal c.Bioburden d.Stress CorrectWrong

CorrectWrong Chemotherapy impairs wound healing because: a.It induces peripheral neuropathy b.It disrupts cell mitosis c.It interferes with cell DNA synthesis d.A + C e.All of the above

CorrectWrong Bioburden in a wound negatively affects wound healing as: a.Prevents epithelialization b.Contributes to the proliferation of bacteria c.All of the above

True of False The longer a wound is around and the bigger a wound is, the longer it will take the wound to heal CorrectWrong

List three examples of inappropriate wound care, that could delay or prevent wound healing CorrectWrong
