PROJECT CENTROPE MAP Overall project goals Main objectives  International attractivenes  Sustainable integration  Location with high-quality of life  Professional cooperation Main bodies  Multilateral platform Centrope  Multilateral advisory board Centrope  National steering committee Centrope  Club Centrope

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP  Portal for digital Information on the Centrope region (improved knowledge transfer on the new European region)  Basis for developing a common planning comprehension  Basis for coordinating cross-border projects and plannings (Transportation, Environment, Development of Settlement areas etc.) and further analysis of the interregional development  Tool for visualization of Information and common strategies and concepts to prepare political decision making within Centrope  Information source for business development e.g. choosing a location site in the Centrope region. Overall project goals Centrope MAP

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP Challenges Centrope MAP Centrope MAP challenges  Legal planning responsibilities on different levels  Data responsibilities on different levels  Administrative boundaries = data boundaries  No „common data infrastructure“ available, solely „isolated applications“  inefficiencies, costs,... (not only technical problems...)

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP Project approach Centrope MAP  Centrope MAP is a process not a single project - an ongoing cross-border exchange of planning related information with benefits for all participating partners.  Centrope MAP does not generate new data itself but relies on integrating, structuring and harmonizing existing Information from the data maintaining sources. Data will be made available via OGC standard´s compliant web map services.  Quality of Centrope MAP is depending on quality and up-to-dateness of the provided information!  Centrope MAP is an open system, that is able to integrate digital information from different scale levels and different sources. Centrope MAP data itself can also be integrated in external applications via OGC WMS.  In addition and linked with other Web-Map-Service applications - no Competitor!

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP I.Background/ Motivation II.Project steps and results III.Technical aspects IV.Outlook/ Perspectives

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP Work steps Project phase III  Integration and harmonization of further spatial data  Corine Land Cover data 2000 for Austria  Natura2000 data for Burgenland  Macon data update for Czech republic, Slovakia and Hungary  Teleatlas street data for Burgenland and Lower Austria  „Centrope“ Satelite image  a.o.  Integration of further statistical data as accessible  Development and Implementation of a Web Map Server and Client Solution for displaying, integrating and exchange of OGC-compliant WMS services  Consulting and communication on regionwide data exchange mechanisms (workshops, information dissemination)

Administrative borders Winegrowing Urban and discontinous urban areas Forest.... Zoom – Overlay on Sat.image

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP  Develop spatio-temporal matrix for attribute data  Which data for which region, collected when  Define attribute data catalogue of „most wanted data classes“  Demography, Migration  Economy, Household income  Commuter, Transport statistics  Environmental indicators, a.o.  Overcome the „language barrier“ (Database with statistical/ planning related technical terms) Statistical data challenges

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP Project Implementation – DATA  Which administrative unit or institution can provide the data?  Nomenclature and classifications already according to EUROSTAT standards?  Which file format?  Ongoing cooperation with statistic units and GIS/ data departments of the states and regions within Centrope

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP

Spatial reference matrix: Administrative levels within Centrope Cross-border Cooperation basics

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP Derivation of common and consistent file names: Example: CEN_NUTS3_DEMOG_POPDENSITY_2004.DBF Cross-border Cooperation basics

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP Centrope MAP – Metadata Online

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP  Metadata-Upload requires complete ISO 19115 CORE data sets  Metadata search output displays selected core information focussing:  Titel, topic, format  Distributor and use limitations  Orientation on European INSPIRE systematic + on well established NOEGIS – Geodata catalog (Lower Austria)  Standards guarantee interoperability and transparency Centrope MAP WEBSITE - Geocatalog

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP I.Background/ Motivation II.Project steps III.Technical aspects IV.Outlook/ Perspectives

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP  Strong Open Source component (budget constraints/ independence)  UMN mapserver Version 4.6.2  Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards´ compliant  guarantees Interoperability  Offers distributed data access  Runs on Apache http Server  Mapbender Client Suite, CCGis, Bonn  http://213.47.127.15:8081/mapbender/frames/login.php?&gui_id= pgocentrope&name=centropeuser&password=pgo WebMapServer (WMS) – Technical Facts

Online Dictionary for technical terms of statistical and spatial data Cross-border technical terms

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP  Harmonize and integrate additional data replace actual data with more precise information  Overcome language barriers – idea: online dictionary with technical terms  Adjustment of WMS contents for spatial and for attribute data  Development of a common map layout for services (SLD?)  Common legend layout for equal content  consistent maps and comparable thematic classes Main tasks for future cooperation

PROJECT CENTROPE MAP  Integration of Project data (permanent back flow enhances the system!)  Secured Server operation  Further networking and use of Synergy effects  Regional / National / European (BEV price model, INSPIRE)  Even global developments [Google Maps]  Common approach with all partners in the region! (Financing) Main tasks for future cooperation
