3. “Antichrist” is from the Greek word antichristos. Not to be confused with “false Christ” (pseudochristos - Matt. 24:24). “Antichrist” is found four times: 1 John 2:18; 2:22; 4:3; 2 John 7. The Antichrist, Who Is He? 1 John 2:18 - Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. 1 John 2:22 - Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 1 John 4:3 - And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 2 John 1:7 - For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. 4

The Antichrist, Who Is He? “It is interesting to note that in some sense the antichrist was already present, but unfortunately John’s words have been taken to suggest that an individual “Antichrist” was yet to appear. The term is commonly used today by Premillennialists to refer to one individual who is supposed to appear near the end of time. Connections between the “Antichrist” and the “man of sin” in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-11 are often made with the visions of Daniel concerning the “king of the South” (Dan. 11:36-45) and the “beast of the sea” (Rev. 13:1-9). Premillennialists believe that Daniel foresaw a human leader, satanically energized, who would come to Jerusalem, enforce his will, exalt himself above all other people and gods, and wreak havoc and slaughter. They claim he will be so convincing as an ally and deliverer that Israel will sign a pact with him to be her protector. He will then turn against the nation and occupy the throne in the sanctuary of the rebuilt temple, which for Israel will still symbolize the presence of God, and blasphemously present himself to the world as if he were God.” - Kyle Campbell, Truth Magazine, April 2009 5

Claims of Premillennialism Much of the interest regarding the antichrist is influenced by this doctrine: At the mere sight of their Messiah, the Jews are to turn to Him in a national conversion Christ, at his coming, will destroy the antichrist and all his forces in the battle of Armageddon After this battle, Christ will establish a world wide Kingdom with Jerusalem as its capital, in which He and the resurrected and transfigured saints will rule for a literal thousand years in peace 6
