U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY IntroductionIntroduction uThe Objective of this briefing is to prepare you to contact the office of your Congressional Representative to schedule your required meeting “on the Hill” uCLA staff cannot schedule these for you uYou are the “constituent” – you live in their congressional district uYou will need to call the schedulers to make the appointments uIt is a good experience for you and it is part of the CLA experience uCLA cadets and staff are not the only CAP members participating in Legislative Day. Your wing is also sending a delegation.

U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY How to Contact a Legislator uTo obtain the contact information for your Congressional Representative Washington Office online use the link http://www.house.gov and http://www.senate.gov uCall your Representative’s Washington DC offices by Wed 4 February uIdentify yourself as “Civil Air Patrol Cadet (Name) from (Town)” uCall the office number listed for your Representative and ask for "the scheduler “ uWrite down the scheduler’s name and phone number

U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY TeamworkTeamwork u Schedule meeting for Thurs 26 February between 1000- 1600 uCadets will work in small groups to develop a message for meeting with Congressional representatives uCadets will be grouped by region, if it works out logistically uGroup assignments will be made at the activity, early in the week uLet the scheduler know you will be delivering CAP’s Annual Report to Congress and discussing the work that CAP is doing in your state

U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY How to Contact a Legislator u Cadets should confirm one meeting (note: ONE meeting only) uIf your Representative and/or their Staff person is not available to meet you, confirm a meeting with ONE of your two Senators u Follow-up by sending a fax to the offices confirming uMeeting date, time, and name of scheduler who helped you uTopic - delivering the Civil Air Patrol Annual Report to Congress and discussing CAP activities in their state / district uThe CLA Cadets’ names from your region uYour contact information uTHANK THEM for setting up the meeting

U.S. AIR FORCE AUXILIARY Coordinate with CLA Staff uAfter scheduling your appointment, email the appointment information to Maj Rebecca Sundhagen (rsundhagen@yahoo.com), including: uYour name uLegislator’s name, office building, and office number uAppointment time (one appointment only) uThis information must be submitted by Wed 4 February
