Pastor Timothy Chan Chinese Grace Bible Church Sunday, January 20, 2013 The Spiritual Significance of the Passover Lamb

4 Exodus 12:1-14 (NIV 1984) 1 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt,
2  “This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year.

5 Exodus 12:1-14 (NIV 1984) 3  Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household.

6 Exodus 12:1-14 (NIV 1984) 4  If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat.

7 Exodus 12:1-14 (NIV 1984) 5  The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats.

8 Exodus 12:1-14 (NIV 1984) 6  Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the people of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight.

9 Exodus 12:1-14 (NIV 1984) 7  Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs.

10 Exodus 12:1-14 (NIV 1984) 8  That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast. 9  Do not eat the meat raw or cooked in water, but roast it over the fire—head, legs and inner parts.

11 Exodus 12:1-14 (NIV 1984) 10  Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it.

12 Exodus 12:1-14 (NIV 1984) 11  This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the Lord’s Passover.

13 Exodus 12:1-14 (NIV 1984) 12  “On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn—both men and animals—and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord.

14 Exodus 12:1-14 (NIV 1984) 13  The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.

15 Exodus 12:1-14 (NIV 1984) 14  “This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance.

49 Exodus 12:3-4 (NIV 1984) 4  If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat.

50 Deuteronomy 8:1-9 (NIV 1984) 1  Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land that the Lord promised on oath to your forefathers.

51 Deuteronomy 8:1-9 (NIV 1984) 2  Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.

52 Deuteronomy 8:1-9 (NIV 1984) 3  He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

53 Deuteronomy 8:1-9 (NIV 1984) 4  Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. 5  Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.

54 Deuteronomy 8:1-9 (NIV 1984) 6  Observe the commands of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and revering him.

55 Deuteronomy 8:1-9 (NIV 1984) 7  For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with streams and pools of water, with springs flowing in the valleys and hills;

56 Deuteronomy 8:1-9 (NIV 1984) 8  a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey;

57 Deuteronomy 8:1-9 (NIV 1984) 9  a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.

58 1 Peter 1:18-21 (NIV 1984) 18  For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers,

59 1 Peter 1:18-21 (NIV 1984) 19  but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20  He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.

60 1 Peter 1:18-21 (NIV 1984) 21  Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
