3 Measurement A standard unit, which objectively describes the physical qualities of an object. The process of determining precise dimensions within standard increments.

7 US Customary and Metric physical qualities
Measurement for distance and area are in inches, feet, and square inches. Measurements for weight and volume are in quarts, cubic inches, and pounds. Measurement for temperature is in Fahrenheit. Measurement for pressure is in pounds per square inch. Metric Measurement for distance and area are in millimeters, meters, and square centimeters. Measurements for weight and volume liters, cubic centimeters, and kilograms. Measurement for temperature is in Celsius. Measurement for pressure is in kilograms per square millimeter.

10 Define distance?

11 Distance The separation between two points.
How far a part two objects or places might be.

12 Define mass?

13 Mass The amount of matter in an object.
Describes the quantity of matter present in an object. Matter is anything that has mass and can take up space. Ex. If two identical looking parts are weighed, one made of copper and the other made of lead, the lead unit will weight more. Lead has more matter per unit of volume than does copper.

15 Temperature How hot or cold a material or object is.
The two scales that measure temperature are: Fahrenheit: The US Customary scale, which has 180 degrees between the freezing and boiling points. Celsius: The Metric scale, where the freezing point is 0 and boiling point is 100 degrees.

19 Volume Volume is a measurement, which is related to distance.
Volume is measured in cubes or a cubic measurement. Examples of volume measurements are: Liters, which is equivalent to 10 cubic centimeters on each side. Cubic inches, which is equal to 1” cubed. A measurement of 4

21 Precision Measurement
A type of measurement that is used when the size is critical to the function of the device. Accuracy is so important that the measurement is made to the nearest hundred of an inch.

Used in the manufacturing of: Metals Engine parts, shafts, pulleys, spindles, and gears Ceramics Toilet parts, electrical parts, computer parts, and engine parts Plastics Vacuum parts, car parts, computer parts, and other electronic parts Composites Used as a substitute for the above three.
