2 Lighting- introduction 1.Interior- Cockpit area (flood, map and optional glareshield), flight instruments/panel lights, passenger advisory lights, emergency exit lights. -tailcone/baggage areas -cabin area (next slide) 2. Exterior- navigation, anticollision, landing, wing inspection, with optional rotating beacon, and tail floodlights (vanity lights).

3 Lighting- general Cabin lighting- indirect fluorescent bulbs, passenger reading lights, main and emergency exit floodlights, aft compartment lights, and lighted signs.

4 Cockpit lighting Instruments- internally lighted Switch fcns.- electroluminescent panels PANEL LIGHT CONTROL master sw. (and rheostats)- controls all cockpit area lights except overhead and instrument floodlights. Rheostats- (lEFT, CENTER, RIGHT, EL, FLOOD LTS.) control lighting intensity. * Turning on panel light master dims the annunciator panel lights and lndg. Gear disengage lights, illuminates starter disengage and actuates the control rheostats.

5 Cockpit lighting ctn. For emerg. Cockpit lighting- 2 overhead floods and engine instrument floods (glareshield) controlled by FLOOD LTS rheostat to left of PANEL LIGHT CONTROL master sw. Power is via the emergency bus. Eng. Instrument floods- operate when either eng. Is in start cycle or when FLOOD LTS is on.

6 Cockpit lighting ctn. Map light- left and rt. Fwd. overhead panels controlled by rheostats on fwd side of left and rt. Side consoles. Panel “EL” lights- layer of phosphor btn. 2 electrodes encapsulated btn. 2 layers of plastic- white lettering. Controlled by EL rheostat.

7 EL lighting -CB panels Switch panels Light control panels Environmental control panel Landing gear control panel Throttle pedestal control panel *EL power is AC supplied through inverter in nose baggage area.

8 Passenger compartment lighting Includes: all cabin lights, utility lights, lighted signs, indirect lighting and pax. Reading lights. System consists of- three pos. sw., inverters, control units, twelve fluorescent bulbs. Indirect fluorescent lights- controlled by an OFF-BRIGHT-DIM switch just fwd. of and above the entrance door hinge.

9 Cabin indirect lighting In BRIGHT- AC via inverters In DIM- main system DC power supplied- if selected lights go bright for 3 sec. then dim. For gnd. Ops. Select bright at least until after eng. Start and D.C. pwr. Is available.

10 Cabin entrance and direct lighting Pax. Reading and overhead compartment lights- mounted in overhead consol- controlled by an internal sw.- adjustable fore and aft. Entrance and emerg. Exit lights- controlled by a white rocker sw. on fwd. side of main entrance door- powered by hot batt. Bus.

11 Advisory signs Installed in fwd. cabin bulkhead, controlled by PASS SAFETY/SEAT BELT sw. on pilot’s safety panel- 3 pos. –PASS SAFETY – OFF – SEAT BELT –In PASS SAFETY- both no smoking and fasten seat belt signs illuminate –IN SEAT BELT- only fasten seat belt portion illuminates –Optional safety chimes available for this sw.

12 Emergency Lighting -Emerg. Lighting- battery pack, inertia sw., and single lights for cabin entrance and emerg. Exit. -battery pack- 20 cell nicad- 30V. Charged continually via hot batt. Bus. -inertia switch- mounted abv. Cockpit headliner- actuates lights when 5g’s is felt.

13 In-flight use of emerg. lighting When pax. Safety light is in PASS SAFETY- emerg. exit. And main entrance door lights illuminate. Eng. Instrument floods- activated during eng. Start or when cockpit floodlight sw. in ON- receives pwr. From emerg. Bus during other than start condition- during start pwr. Source is emerg lights batt. Pack.

14 Tailcone and nose baggage lighting Tailcone- powered from hot batt. Bus- microswitch in the access door frame removes power from light when tailcone door closed. Nose compartment- controlled by sw. next to overhead light. If sw. off and catch to hold door open engaged- light comes on. Microswitch in nose baggage door catches turns light off regardless of rocker pos. when both doors close

15 Exterior lighting Nav. Lights, landing/anticollision lights, taxi lights, and wing inspn. Light. Optional wingtip recog. Lights and tail floods are available- see pictures in manual. Nav. Lights are controlled by the NAV switch on the pilot’s instrument panel. Anticollision lights are wingtip strobes controlled by the ANTI COLL switch in same location. Each light has its own individual power supply

16 Exterior lighting ctn. The optional red rotating beacon is mounted on top of the vertical stab. And is controlled by the BEACON switch. Tail Floodlights- I.D., logo, telltale, or vanity lights- located on each side of the horizontal stab. If so equipped the BEACON switch has an additional position- BCN/TL for control

17 Exterior lighting ctn. Landing light- mounted on each main gear.- used as taxi lights during taxi. Fixed position, sealed beam controlled by the LANDING LIGHTS switch. –The control sw. is interconnected with microswitches actuated by the landing gear doors so that the lights come on only when the main landing gear doors are not fully closed.

18 Exterior lighting ctn. Wing Inspection light- fixed position light located fwd. of the wing leading edge in fuselage- used to check for ice –Controlled by the WING INSP sw. with ON and OFF positions. RECOG. Sw. controls the recognition lights mounted in the leading edges of the wingtips- illuminate forward; used to increase vis.
