Blooms all summer up until first frost Leaves: Simple ovate, dentate margins Flowers: every color but yellow and a true blue. 2” flowers. Distinctive tail on backside of petal. Size: 1’ to 2’ mounds

2 New Guinea Impatiens Type: Summer annual Exposure: Full sun to part shade Care: frequent watering in full sun, good indicator plant for watering. Wilts bad but bounces back Uses: beds and containers Leaves: elongated and dentate, some varieties have yellow variegation and attractive patterns. Flowers: Slightly larger than regular impatiens but same colors Size: 1’ to 2’ tall and same width

Flowers: Orange petals surrounding an yellow-orange center. Flowers 2” in diameter. Blooms later than most annuals. Attracts butterflies. Leaves: 4” to 5” and heart shaped. Fuzzy. Size: Tall – up to 5’ tall and 5’ wide. Give plenty of space.

Exposure: Full sun – leggy and less blooms in shady situations Care: Thrives on neglect, super-easy to grow. Drought tolerant. No upkeep needed. Uses: Mass planted in beds, hanging baskets, butterfly gardens Flower- Lantana comes in many shades of yellow, orange and red. There is also a purple variety. Blooms all summer long. We are growing ‘New Gold’ because it is the most heat and cold tolerant – deep yellow pompom flower clusters. Butterflies flock to it in bloom. Leaves: Fragrant 1” long half as wide. Serrated margin.

Covers a lot of space – very spreading with stolons Flower: None Leaves: Palm shaped. Deeply lobed. Grown for its dark purple leaves and trailing growth habit Size: up to 12” tall and 5’ wide Actually grows edible potatoes underground.

18 Black Pearl Ornamental Pepper Type: Annual Exposure: Full Sun Care: Regular watering, easy to grow. Uses: Mass plantings in beds, containers, dark leaves contrasts well with light colored flowers. Decorative peppers – not pleasant to eat! Flowers: tiny white flowers tinged with purple- they do show up well against dark leaves, but mainly grown for its fruit and leaf color. Leaves: dark green to black – blacker when planted in full sun – somewhat glossy Size- 12 – 24 inches – slow growing

19 Angelonia / Summer Snapdragon Type: Summer Annual Exposure: Full Sun Care: Low- maintenance. Very heat tolerant. Uses: containers, flower beds in mass plantings. Flowers: Small cup shaped flowers on upright spikes. Very unique. Looks like an open mouth of a dragon. Contrasts well with other species. Comes in pink, white, and many different shades of blue. Leaves: simple lanceolate Size: 12-18 in.

Spreads - use as a groundcover. Does very well on slopes, rock gardens Flower: none Leaves: Succulent and fleshy. Many shapes and sizes. We are growing ‘Ogon’ (yellow), ‘Blue Spruce’ (bluish- gray), and ‘Album’ (silver –thick leaves) Size: 2” to 6” tall and up to 2’ wide. Spreads underground with runners.

21 Osteospermum Type: summer annual Exposure: Full sun will not bloom in shade Care: Medium water requirements Uses: Sunny borders or containers in full sun. Cut flower arrangements. Leaves: simple 2” undulated leaf that is longer than it is wide Flowers: In shades of purple, lavender, white, and soft yellow. Needs to be deadheaded to bloom continuously Size: 1’ to 2’ and slightly upright ( taller than wide)

Uses: Bed, containers, hanging baskets, butterfly gardens Flowers: Every color, but yellow – clusters at the end of each branch Leaves- thickly veined and fuzzy. Serrated leaf margin. Size: up to 8” tall and trails out to 4’. Size can be controlled by frequent pinching

23 Morning Glory Vine Type: Annual self-seeding vine Exposure: Full sun Care: Train with kite string or fishing line by tying it to something that you want it to crawl on Uses: To crawl up porch posts or mailboxes. Flowers: Disk shaped, slightly trumpet shaped. Many colors, mostly pastels. Opens in the morning and closes in the afternoon. Leaves: Heart shaped about 3” long Size: Can climb to 6’ in a perfect location.

Popular for flower arrangements Leaves: Simple thin leave to 2” long And smooth margin Flowers: drooping dark red tassles Size:: Up to 3’ tall.

25 Gerber Daisy Type: Annual Exposure: Full Sun Care: needs to be deadheaded when bloom fades. Doesn’t perform well in harsh conditions and has a short bloom season. Leaves: Deeply veined and rough textured. 4” long and 2” wide with undulating leaf margin Flowers: Daisy –like with petals radiating from center button. Many color varieties Uses: Flower beds, containers, cut flowers for arrangements.
