The unleavened bread reminded the Hebrews of their affliction from being slaves and the night of hasty deliverance by God. The firstfruits of the Spring cereal grain harvest were offered as a thanksgiving offering to God for the harvest. Thanksgiving for the arrival of the summer crops. Firstfruits were offered to God.

Firstfruits of the second harvest. Messiah would send the Holy Spirit to inaugurate the New Covenant and Church age.

30. www.thebereanapproach.com The Berean Approach The purpose of the celebration was to proclaim aloud the mighty acts of the Lord in the history of salvation (“Sing for joy to God our strength; shout joyfully to the God of Jacob.”) During the feast the congregation remembered God’s mighty acts in Egypt(v.5) and how He dwelled with them in the wilderness. This is foreshadowing God dwelling with us on the new earth after He makes all things new (Rel. 21).

38. www.thebereanapproach.com The Berean Approach Israel’s Past The psalm recalls Israel’s history during their time in Egypt and during the wilderness wandering. Israel’s Present Verses 8-12 deals with Israel’s rejection of the Messiah and the consequents of this rejection. Israel’s Future Verses 13-16 deals with Israel’s repentance. As a direct result of Israel’s calamity, they call out in repentance to the Messiah, who will return to them and defeat their enemies.
