Jews brought the Gospel to the non-Jews… NOT the other way around! F. The main issue in the early Messianic community (a follower of the Way) was whether a Gentile could become a Christian without converting to Judaism; not whether a Jew could believe in Yeshua. Acts 15:1-29;all of Galatians. Paul (the chief emissary to the Gentiles) was a lifelong observant Jew. Acts16:3…Paul takes Timothy to be circumcised;17:2…Paul goes to the synagogue as was his custom;18:18;21:16;21:23-27;23:7- 25; 28:17... Paul calls a meeting with Jewish leaders and says that he has done nothing against our people of customs. Act 16:3 Paul takes Timothy to be circumcised. Acts 17;2 Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them (where? Synagogue)…and for three Sabbaths reasoned with then from the Scriptures Acts 18:18 Paul going to Syria with Priscilla and Aaquila and had his hair cut off because of a vow he had taken. Acts 28:17 And it came to pass after 3 days that Paul called the leaders of the Jews together. And so when they had come together, he said to them: Men and brethren, Though I have done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. Messiah’s vicarious atonement rooted in Jewish sacrificial system. Leviticus 17:11…life of the flesh is in the blood for atonement; Hebrews 9:22…without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. The Lord’s Supper is rooted in the Jewish Passover. J. Immersion (Baptism) is a Jewish practice. Leviticus 17;11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the alter to make atonement for your souls. For it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul. The concept of a Messiah is Jewish. The New Testament completes the Tanakh (OT) which is the Hebrew Scriptures which God gave to a Jewish people. Lillie Rose Ministries

Why some people are opposed to the Jewishness of the New Testament:
Christian anti-Semitism Jews failure to receive the Gospel Separation between the Church and the Jewish people… Christian persecution of the Jews Secular humanism Refusal to turn from sin Alienation which is perceived by Jews in most New Testament translations. 4. The view that Christianity is Christianity… Judaism is Judaism. The view by some Christians that they have replaced Israel, instead of joining Israel (Replacement Theology). We must heal this wound with our Jewish friends! Lillie Rose Ministries

Understanding the New Testament from a Messianic Jewish prospective…
Cosmetically: Jesus is Yeshua Theologically: Promises have been made in the Torah. Messiah does not terminate these promises, but rather He is the goal at which the Torah aims; therefore the New Testament is Torah in the same sense as the Sinaitic (Mosaic) Covenant. Lillie Rose Ministries

The Torah (the law) is not legalistic in the sense of “bad”; rather legalistic observance of the Torah is bad… Living according to God’s law in faith is good. Lillie Rose Ministries

Understanding the New Testament from a Messianic Jewish prospective….
Syntaxically: fulfill is fill Jesus came to fill the Torah and the ethical pronouncements of the prophets full with their complete meaning…so that all can know all that complete obedience means rather than Jesus fulfilled all of the prophecies so that none remain for them now or He kept the Torah perfectly so that no one need obey it today. Culturally and religiously: Matthew 9:20 And, behold, a woman which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind Him [Yeshua] and touched the hem of His garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But, Jesus turned him about and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole And the woman was made whole from that hour. Why did the Hebrews make a tallit? Numbers 15: 38-41
38. Again the Lord spoke to Moses saying, “Speak to the children of Israel: Tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and put a blue thread in the tassels of the corners. 39. And you shall have the tassel, that you may look upon it and remember all the commandment of the Lord and do them, and that you may not follow the harlotry to which your own heart and your own eyes are inclined, 40. And that you may remember and do all My commandments, and be holy for your God. 41. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God; I am the Lord your God.” The Hebrews made the tallit because they were instructed to do so. Ta.Na.KH Hebrew Bible (Old Testament)
Three Sections make up the Hebrew Bible called the TaKaKH: (1) The Torah (2) the Prophets (3) the Writings Thus we see 3 sections making up the Hebrew Bible. Let’s look at the Torah. Lillie Rose Ministries

(1) Torah (Most literal sense)
The written Torah (the most important part of the Hebrew Bible) consist of the first five books of the Bible written by Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy . The word "Torah" is a tricky one, because it can mean different things in different contexts. In its most limited sense, "Torah" refers to the Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. But the word "torah" can also be used to refer to the entire Jewish bible (the body of scripture known to non-Jews as the Old Testament and to Jews as the Tanakh or Written Torah), or in its broadest sense, to the whole body of Jewish law and teachings. Torah Literal Torah = Written Law only (first 5 books of Moses)
General Torah = the entire Jewish Bible called by non-Jews, the Old Testament or Tanach (Torah, Prophets and Writings) Broadest Torah = the whole body of Jewish law and teachings… which would include the Talmud (Mishnah) and other writings, Gemara. Messianic Torah = all of the broadest sense of the Jewish conception and the New Testament. We also have a mystical tradition, known as Kabbalah. The primary written work in the Kabbalistic tradition is the Zohar. Traditionally, rabbis discouraged teaching this material to anyone under the age of 40, because it is too likely to be misinterpreted by anyone without sufficient grounding in the basics. Today, Rabbinic (Orthodox) Judaism is based upon the

Talmud, Mishnah & Gamara
The Talmud is the “Oral Torah” and is based upon what the Jews believe was taught to Moses. Mishnah The oral tradition now written down. Gemara Additional commentaries Oral Torah: The Talmud In addition to the written scriptures we have an "Oral Torah," a tradition explaining what the above scriptures mean and how to interpret them and apply the Laws. Orthodox Jews believe G-d taught the Oral Torah to Moses, and he taught it to others, down to the present day. This tradition was maintained oly in oral form until about the 2d century C.E., when the oral law was compiled and written down in a document called the Mishnah. Over the next few centuries, additional commentaries elaborating on the Mishnah were written down in Jerusalem and Babylon. These additional commentaries are known as the Gemara. The Gemara and the Mishnah together are known as the Talmud. This was completed in the 5th century Lillie Rose Ministries

Tallit Gadul The Rabbinic Jewish men are required to wear the tallit. Among the Reformed Jews, the use of the tallit declined in the 20th century but recently it is returning and the wearing of it has gained new favor. Most synagogues keep a rack of extras for visitors. (like ties and coats in a restaurant). These tallitot are usually plain and simple. It is consider a NO-NO for a non-Jew to put on a tallit unless they are studying or preparing to convert to Judaism. Lillie Rose Ministries

Kissing the Tallit A sign of respect

There is a blessing which is sewn into the tallit and said when donning the tallit.
Blessed are You, our God, Creator of time and space and who enriches our lives with holiness… commanding us to wrap ourselves in the tallit. Notice the words wrap ourselves in – not wear When wrapped in the tallit, a Jew was in his prayer closet. Some Jews have called this the ultimate security blanket and when they put it on, they visualize it as pure light. Tallit Gadul Tzitzit The tallit is usually worn for a lifetime and is NEVER discarded. A threadbare tallit is treated with great respect (much like our flag). The tradition is that a man be buried only in his kittle and his tallit draped over him; however, the neckband and one tassel (tzitzit) is removed which renders the tallit invalid. Kittle Jewish men were buried with a only a simple linen shroud called a kittle and their tallit with neckband (atarah) removed and the 4 tzitzits cut off. The cutting off of the tzitzits from the tallit is to render the garment INVALID. This person no longer has the choice to obey God or not. Their authority is removed. Tallit Gadul for Women Some modern Orthodox authorities are now even permitting the wearing of a tallit by women. The Covenant of the Tallit (Tzitzit)
To remember the Commandments… To do (walk) the Commandments… that they might KNOW that they belong to God alone! Their lives were to be lives of obedience and of submission. Lillie Rose Ministries

Purpose of the Tallit To remember… that they were set apart by their God (to mark or identify His own). Satan will seek to mark his own in the Tribulation Period to copy God. Lillie Rose Ministries

Jesus’ Rebuke to Pride The leaders would make their tzitzits longer and bigger than the common man. Their pride was reflected in their oversized tzitzits. They took something good and made it perverted and bad. They wanted to have MORE AUTHORITY and so they enlarged the borders [kanaph] of their garments. The Spiritual Authority of the Tzitzit
Samuel was the first priest to anoint the judges and then the kings… When he chastised Saul for his disobedience (Saul was supposed to sacrifice all the sheep.)… “Obedience is better than sacrifice.” I Sam. 15:22 Lillie Rose Ministries

Saul pleaded with Samuel for pardon and Samuel refused, saying that because Saul had rejected God, God had rejected Saul as king over Israel. And… Lillie Rose Ministries

I Samuel 15: 27 And as Samuel turned about to go away, he [Saul] laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle [tzitzit] and it rent. Lillie Rose Ministries

Saul freaked… Saul reached over in anger and ripped the skirt (kanapf: tzitzit, fringe, hem, tassel, border, wing) of his mantle (tallit) Why? To remove Samuel’s authority over him. I Sam. 15:27 So… Lillie Rose Ministries

I Samuel 15: 28 And Samuel said unto him [Saul] , the Lord hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbor of thine [David], that is better than thou. I Sam 15:28 Lillie Rose Ministries

In other words… Because you have done this thing to a man of God, the same will be done to you! This kingdom shall be ripped from you and given to another. Saul’s Authority Given to David
David, who had been anointed years earlier by Samuel, had to flee for his life and he ran from Saul for years. One day, David was hiding in a cave with his little band of warriors. Saul, who had been rejected by God, goes into a cave to relieve himself. David was in that very cave. I Sam. 24:3 Lillie Rose Ministries

I Samuel 24:3 And, he [Saul] came to the sheepcotes and by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went over to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave. Lillie Rose Ministries

I Samuel 24:4 And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the Lord said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. I Samuel 24: 5 & 11 5 And it came to pass afterward, that David’s heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt [kanaph: tzitzit]. 11Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt [kanaph: tzitzit] of thy robe [tallit] in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt [tzitzit] of they robe [ tallit], and killed thee not, know thou and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in mine hand and I have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it. David reached over and cut off the skirt (tzitzit) of Saul’s robe (King Saul’s garment (tallit). I Sam. 24:4 He could have killed Saul; instead he cut off the tzitzit from his tallit. Why? Death When you cut off a man’s tzitzits, you are speaking death. Lillie Rose Ministries

David was in anguish, why?
…because David realized that he had just spoken death to Saul…and that he had removed Saul’s authority. Lillie Rose Ministries

Elijah distressed… Lillie Rose Ministries

Elijah’s Mantle of Authority Elijah was too weak to finish his job.
He went into a cave and hid his face in his mantle (shawl, tallit) and complained to God. I Kings 19:13 Lillie Rose Ministries

I Kings 19:13 And, it was so, that when Elijah heard it that he wrapped his face in his mantle [tallit], and went out and stood in the entering in the cave……. Lillie Rose Ministries

After moaning and groaning to God, God told Elijah to get up and go and anoint his successor, Elisha. Lillie Rose Ministries

When Elijah saw Elisha, he threw his mantle of authority (tallit,prayer shawl) over Elisha’s shoulders, thus appointing his successor. I Kings 19:19 Lillie Rose Ministries

I Kings 19:19 So he [Elijah] departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with the twelve yoke of oxen before him and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle [tallit] upon him Lillie Rose Ministries

Authority in the Tzitzit
Another example of the authority in the tzitzit is found in II Kings 19:19… Lillie Rose Ministries

II Kings 2:8 And Elijah took his mantle [tallit] and wrapped it together [gathered the 4 tzitzits], and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground. AUTHORITY Lillie Rose Ministries

Elisha asks Elijah for a double portion of his anointing. II Kings 2:9 Lillie Rose Ministries

II Kings 2:9-10 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijzh said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing; nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee it shall be so unto thee, but if not it shall not be so. See me…? Elijah was telling Elisha, if you remain by my side and are faithful in serving God and in serving with me, you will get the double anointing. If you do not, you will not get the double anointing you desire. So, what did Elisha do…….? Lillie Rose Ministries

Elijah’s Authority Transferred
Elisha stayed by Elijah’s side. When Elijah was raptured his mantle fell from the sky. Elisha picked up the tallit and smote the water with the tzitzits (symbol of authority) of his new mantle (tallit, prayer shawl) and received a double portion of the anointing. Lillie Rose Ministries

II Kings 2:11 & 13 11And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted then both asunder; and Elijah sent up by whirlwind into heaven [raptured]. 13He took up also the mantle [tallit] of Elijah that fell from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordon. Ruth Goes Under Authority
A widowed woman was left with 2 daughter-in-laws (not Jewish) who also were without husbands. Naomi wanted to go back to her homeland and she encouraged her daughter-in-laws to go back to their homelands to find husbands. Ruth (a Moabite) would not leave Naomi as she felt somehow linked to Naomi’s authority. Lillie Rose Ministries

Boaz Naomi had other relatives who could pay the price for Ruth (a Moabitess) so that she could re-enter. Ruth 2:1 Boaz (a kinsman redeemer) was chosen to take Ruth who had grace (undeserved mercy) upon her. Lillie Rose Ministries

Ruth 3 Ruth, with the faith in her heart, to cling to the spiritual faith of her mother-in-law, came under the blessing of Abraham. Ruth said to Boaz… Lillie Rose Ministries

Ruth 3:9 “I am Ruth, thy handmaid, spread therefore thy skirt (kanapf: tzitzits, fringes, hem, tassels, border, wings) over thy handmaid; for thou art a near kinsmen.” Lillie Rose Ministries

The Story of Ruth is a Picture
Boaz was to be Ruth’s redeemer. This is a picture of what Christ is to us. He is our kinsman redeemer! We were once outside the covenant of God, just as Ruth the Moabitis. One from THE household Who was like us, and He redeemed us! Lillie Rose Ministries

Are you under authority?
You can have the office and still not be under authority. You can try to enlarge your own borders and still have no authority. You may not be doing the really “bad” sins, but we can still not be under His wings, authority. Lillie Rose Ministries

Under the Wings of Authority
When you are covered under God’s wings (authority), you are saying, “I am marked. I am in God’s army. You give the command, God and I will go!” You take your orders from God’s authority and you march with them. Lillie Rose Ministries

Ezra astonished and astounded…

The Hebrews crossed the line…
The Hebrews had begun to mingle in marriage with the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Eqyptians and the Amorites. Why was this a bad thing?
