28 Israel and the New Covenant
“The land of Israel is the New Covenant and the physical land of Israel plays a significant role in the New Testament’s portrayal of God’s plan for the Jews in particular and for humanity in general, past, present and future.” The Jewish New Testament (ed. David H. Stern) Let’s look briefly at what a covenant is and why Messanic Jews believe Israel to be the fulfillment of the New Covenant, Lillie Rose Ministries

29 Lillie Rose Ministries
Covenant… “A Divinely initiated contract which God makes with man in which God obligates himself to the parties names in the contract” 1. Unconditional…God says, “I will!” 2. Conditional*…God says, “I will, if you will…” *Conditional carries the burden of obedience; obedience is better that sacrifice. Jack Van Impe Prophecy Bible Lillie Rose Ministries

30 Lillie Rose Ministries
6 Covenants in the Bible Noahic Covenant: Unconditional Abrahamic Covenant: Unconditional Mosaic Covenant: Conditional Palestinian Covenant: Unconditional Davidic Covenant: Unconditional New Covenant: Unconditional Lillie Rose Ministries

31 Lillie Rose Ministries
Noahic Covenant Preserve the human race and animals from extinction Give a sign (rainbow) (God’s mercy) Tim LaHaye Prophecy Bible Lillie Rose Ministries

32 Abrahamic Covenant (Gen. 12:1-3; 13:14-18; 15:121; 17:1-22)
1. Make Abraham a great nation; multiply his seed; make him father of many nations. 2. Bless Abraham; make him great 3. Make Abraham a blessing to all 4. Bless those who bless him and curse those who curse him. 5. Give Abraham *FOREVER the land which he could see (very specific boundaries). 6. Give him a sign of the covenant (circumcision). *This covenant only partially fulfilled and when be fully realized when Israel enters into the millennial kingdom. Jack Van Impe Prophecy Bible Lillie Rose Ministries

33 * Mosaic Covenant (Ex. 19:4-6)
Make Israel His special possession among all the people of the land. Make Israel a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. Condition: Israel’s obedience to God’s commands (requirements and law which He then gave them). Israel failed but Abrahamic is still in effect by nature of the New Covenant. Jack Van Impe Prophecy Bible God gave Israel the Law….Conditions not met! God will still make #2 come to pass with the promise of the New Covenant,. Lillie Rose Ministries

34 Palestinian Covenant (Deut. 30: 1-10)
Israel to be dispersed among nations. Israel to repent and turn to Lord. Israel to be regathered from dispersion. Israel to come back to land given to Abraham. Israel to be prospered above their fathers. Israel to be restored spiritually to love God with all their heart and soul. Curses to be put upon their enemies. Jack Van Impe Prophecy Bible 1,2,3 done! 4,5,6 & & in the future. Lillie Rose Ministries

35 Davidic Covenant (2 Sam. 7:1-16; 23:1-5; Psalm 89:34-37)
Make David’s name great. Provide a permanent, undisturbed home. Establish an eternal kingdom with David and his offspring. Jack Van Impe Prophecy Bible 1n fulfilled partially as David will be exalted in the millennial reign. 2 & 3 in the future. Lillie Rose Ministries

36 New Covenant Purchased with the blood of Christ!
Give grace (Heb. 10:29) Give peace (Isa. 49:80) Give the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) (Isa. 59:21) Give redemption (Isa. 49:8) Remove sin (Jer. 31:34) Give a new heart (Jer. 31:33) Give a new relationship with God (Ezek. 16:62) Lillie Rose Ministries

37 *New Covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-40)
1. Put His law into the hearts and minds of Israel. Be their God; make them His people. Forgive Israel’s wickedness; remember their sins no more. Extend salvation to the Gentiles. *This covenant will be met fully by God in God’s sovereign grace and power. This replaced the legalistic spirit of the Mosaic Covenant which Israel has not kept. Jack Van Impe Prophecy Bible The Messianic Jews see Jesus as the fulfillment (filling full) of the New Testament. Lillie Rose Ministries

38 Reasons to study the tallit:
l. The Bible is Jewish in origin … (Romans 1:16… Paul not ashamed- power of the Gospel for salvation is to Jew first; 3:29-30… God is God of Jew first and also the Greek; 10:12)…no distinction, Jew and Greek. 2. New Testament is in fact a Jewish book… A. Written by Jews (Luke converted) B. Mostly about Jews (90%) C. Written especially for Jews, equally to the… Gentiles (Romans 1:16) D. Jesus (Yeshua) is the central figure. Romans 1:16 Paul For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first, and also for the Greek (gentile). Romans 3:29 Or is He the God of the Jews only? Is He not only the God of the gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles, also since there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. 10:12 For there is no distinction between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord overall is rich to all who call upon His Name. (Jew mentioned first) As Rabbi says, ‘Written by a bunch of Jewish boys”! Exception a few Romans, Samaritan, woman at the well… Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Lillie Rose Ministries

39 Lillie Rose Ministries
Yeshua Jesus l. Was a Jew 2. Born to Jews in Bethlehem 3. Grew up among Jews in Nazareth 4. Ministered to Jews in Galilee 5. Died and rose from the grave in the Jewish… capitol of Jerusalem in the Jewish country… Eretz (Israel), which God gave to a Jewish people. 2. Mary and Joseph with their long Jewish lineages linking them to the tribes of Judah (Prince) And Aaron of Levite tribe (priests) 5. Abrahamic Covenant….. Lillie Rose Ministries

40 Lillie Rose Ministries
6. Jesus is alive; therefore, He is STILL a… Jew. 7. His closest followers were Jewish. (Luke was probably a proselyte) 8. For years, his followers were Jews. Despite what Larry King believes…of all dead people would like to interview Jesus. Despite trhe new movie coming out about Jesus’s bones found (along with Mary and a son.) Perfect family now…wife, son and daughter (DaVinci Code). Lillie Rose Ministries

41 Lillie Rose Ministries
Jesus practiced His Jewish faith and he worn a tallit (prayer shawl). WHY? Was it to fulfill prophecy? We will find out when we study the scriptures more thoroughly later. Study to show thyself approved,. This is what you are doing now. Lillie Rose Ministries

42 Lillie Rose Ministries
Jews brought the Gospel to the non-Jews… NOT the other way around! F. The main issue in the early Messianic community (a follower of the Way) was whether a Gentile could become a Christian without converting to Judaism; not whether a Jew could believe in Yeshua. Acts 15:1-29;all of Galatians. Paul (the chief emissary to the Gentiles) was a lifelong observant Jew. Acts16:3…Paul takes Timothy to be circumcised;17:2…Paul goes to the synagogue as was his custom;18:18;21:16;21:23-27;23:7- 25; 28:17... Paul calls a meeting with Jewish leaders and says that he has done nothing against our people of customs. Act 16:3 Paul takes Timothy to be circumcised. Acts 17;2 Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them (where? Synagogue)…and for three Sabbaths reasoned with then from the Scriptures Acts 18:18 Paul going to Syria with Priscilla and Aaquila and had his hair cut off because of a vow he had taken. Acts 28:17 And it came to pass after 3 days that Paul called the leaders of the Jews together. And so when they had come together, he said to them: Men and brethren, Though I have done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. Lillie Rose Ministries

43 Lillie Rose Ministries
Messiah’s vicarious atonement rooted in Jewish sacrificial system. Leviticus 17:11…life of the flesh is in the blood for atonement; Hebrews 9:22…without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. The Lord’s Supper is rooted in the Jewish Passover. J. Immersion (Baptism) is a Jewish practice. Leviticus 17;11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the alter to make atonement for your souls. For it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul. Hebrews 9;22 And according to the Law almost all things are purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. Lillie Rose Ministries

44 Lillie Rose Ministries
The concept of a Messiah is Jewish. The New Testament completes the Tanakh (OT) which is the Hebrew Scriptures which God gave to a Jewish people. Lillie Rose Ministries

45 The Jewish New Testament ed. David H. Stern
“The New Testament without the Old Testament is as impossible as a second-floor house is without the first and the Old Testament without the New Testament is as unfinished as a house without a roof.” Lillie Rose Ministries

46 Lillie Rose Ministries
THEREFORE Much of the New Testament is not even comprehensible apart from its Jewish roots or context. Lillie Rose Ministries

47 Lillie Rose Ministries
Most Importantly! The number of Old Testament prophecies - all centuries older than the New Testament events – are fulfilled in Yeshua of Nazareth, a Jew in the New Testament! Lillie Rose Ministries

48 Yeshua fulfilled 52 prophecies!
All prophecies regarding the birth, life and death of the promised Messiah were fulfilled by Yeshua! The rest will be fulfilled at His second coming! Lillie Rose Ministries

49 Why some people are opposed to the Jewishness of the New Testament:
Christian anti-Semitism Jews failure to receive the Gospel Separation between the Church and the Jewish people… Christian persecution of the Jews Secular humanism Refusal to turn from sin Alienation which is perceived by Jews in most New Testament translations. Jews see the New Testament as a Gentile book about a Gentile god. Lillie Rose Ministries

50 Lillie Rose Ministries
4. The view that Christianity is Christianity… Judaism is Judaism. The view by some Christians that they have replaced Israel, instead of joining Israel (Replacement Theology). We must heal this wound with our Jewish friends! Lillie Rose Ministries

51 Understanding the New Testament from a Messianic Jewish prospective…
Cosmetically: Jesus is Yeshua Theologically: Promises have been made in the Torah. Messiah does not terminate these promises, but rather He is the goal at which the Torah aims; therefore the New Testament is Torah in the same sense as the Sinaitic (Mosaic) Covenant. Lillie Rose Ministries

52 Understanding the New Testament from a Messianic Jewish prospective…
The Torah (the law) is not legalistic in the sense of “bad”; rather legalistic observance of the Torah is bad… Living according to God’s law in faith is good. Lillie Rose Ministries

53 Lillie Rose Ministries
Law Remember for later, another interpretation of the Word “Law” is … WALK Lillie Rose Ministries

54 Understanding the New Testament from a Messianic Jewish prospective….
Syntaxically: fulfill is fill Jesus came to fill the Torah and the ethical pronouncements of the prophets full with their complete meaning…so that all can know all that complete obedience means rather than Jesus fulfilled all of the prophecies so that none remain for them now or He kept the Torah perfectly so that no one need obey it today. Lillie Rose Ministries

55 Understanding the New Testament from a Messianic Jewish prospective…
Culturally and religiously: Matthew 9:20 And, behold, a woman which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind Him [Yeshua] and touched the hem of His garment: For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But, Jesus turned him about and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole And the woman was made whole from that hour. Mark this scripture as we will come back to this and discuss it in detail. Lillie Rose Ministries

56 Why did the Hebrews make a tallit? Numbers 15: 38-41
38. Again the Lord spoke to Moses saying, “Speak to the children of Israel: Tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and put a blue thread in the tassels of the corners. 39. And you shall have the tassel, that you may look upon it and remember all the commandment of the Lord and do them, and that you may not follow the harlotry to which your own heart and your own eyes are inclined, 40. And that you may remember and do all My commandments, and be holy for your God. 41. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God; I am the Lord your God.” The Hebrews made the tallit because they were instructed to do so. Remember, the scriptures that the Hebrews had at this time was the Torah, not the complete Bible which we know today as the Old Testament and the New Testament. Lillie Rose Ministries

57 Ta.Na.KH Hebrew Bible (Old Testament)
Three Sections make up the Hebrew Bible called the TaKaKH: (1) The Torah (2) the Prophets (3) the Writings Thus we see 3 sections making up the Hebrew Bible. Let’s look at the Torah. Lillie Rose Ministries

58 (1) Torah (Most literal sense)
The written Torah (the most important part of the Hebrew Bible) consist of the first five books of the Bible written by Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy . The word "Torah" is a tricky one, because it can mean different things in different contexts. In its most limited sense, "Torah" refers to the Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. But the word "torah" can also be used to refer to the entire Jewish bible (the body of scripture known to non-Jews as the Old Testament and to Jews as the Tanakh or Written Torah), or in its broadest sense, to the whole body of Jewish law and teachings. Lillie Rose Ministries

59 Lillie Rose Ministries
Torah (The Law) Bereishith (In the beginning...) Genesis Shemoth (The Names…)Exodus Vayigra (And he called…)Leviticus Badmirbar (In the Wilderness)…Numbers Devarim (The words….)Deuteronomy. The Hebrew names of the first five books are derived from the first few words of the book. The text of each book is more or less the same in Jewish translations as what you see in Christian bibles, although there are some occasional, slight differences in the numbering of verses and there are some significant differences in the translations. Lillie Rose Ministries

60 Torah Literal Torah = Written Law only (first 5 books of Moses)
General Torah = the entire Jewish Bible called by non-Jews, the Old Testament or Tanach (Torah, Prophets and Writings) Broadest Torah = the whole body of Jewish law and teachings… which would include the Talmud (Mishnah) and other writings, Gemara. Messianic Torah = all of the broadest sense of the Jewish conception and the New Testament. We also have a mystical tradition, known as Kabbalah. The primary written work in the Kabbalistic tradition is the Zohar. Traditionally, rabbis discouraged teaching this material to anyone under the age of 40, because it is too likely to be misinterpreted by anyone without sufficient grounding in the basics. Madona is part of a modern religion Kabbalah which is considered a perverted form of Judaism. Lillie Rose Ministries

61 Today, Rabbinic (Orthodox) Judaism is based upon the
Torah and the Talmud. Lillie Rose Ministries

62 Talmud, Mishnah & Gamara
The Talmud is the “Oral Torah” and is based upon what the Jews believe was taught to Moses. Mishnah The oral tradition now written down. Gemara Additional commentaries Oral Torah: The Talmud In addition to the written scriptures we have an "Oral Torah," a tradition explaining what the above scriptures mean and how to interpret them and apply the Laws. Orthodox Jews believe G-d taught the Oral Torah to Moses, and he taught it to others, down to the present day. This tradition was maintained oly in oral form until about the 2d century C.E., when the oral law was compiled and written down in a document called the Mishnah. Over the next few centuries, additional commentaries elaborating on the Mishnah were written down in Jerusalem and Babylon. These additional commentaries are known as the Gemara. The Gemara and the Mishnah together are known as the Talmud. This was completed in the 5th century Lillie Rose Ministries

63 (1) Torah (written, not oral)
The Written Torah (1/3) of the Hebrew Bible and includes the first 5 books of the Bible. TORAH (The Law): Bereishith (In the beginning...) (Genesis) ;Shemoth (The Names…)Exodus; Vayigra (And he called…)Leviticus; Badmirbar (In the Wilderness)…Numbers; Devarim (The words….)Deuteronomy. The Hebrew names of the first five books are derived from the first few words of the book. The text of each book is more or less the same in Jewish translations as what you see in Christian bibles, although there are some occasional, slight differences in the numbering of verses and there are some significant differences in the translations. (2) NEVI’IM (Prophets) The Prophets (1/3) of the Jewish Bible consists of the following writings: Yehoshua (Joshua) Shoftim (Judges) Shmuel (I &II Samuel) Melakhim (I & II Kings) Yeshayah (Isaiah) Yirmyah (Jeremiah) Yechezqel (Ezekiel) The Twelve (treated as one book)*** NEVI'IM (The Prophets): Yehoshua (Joshua) Shoftim (Judges) Shmuel (I &II Samuel) Melakhim (I & II Kings) Yeshayah (Isaiah) Yirmyah (Jeremiah) Yechezqel (Ezekiel) The Twelve (treated as one book) Hoshea (Hosea) Yoel (Joel) Amos Ovadyah (Obadiah) Yonah (Jonah) Mikhah (Micah) Nachum Chavaqquq (Habbakkuk) Tzefanyah (Zephaniah) Chaggai Zekharyah (Zechariah) Malakhi Lillie Rose Ministries

66 (3) Kethuvim (The Writings)
The Writings (1/3) consist of the following: Tehillim (Psalms) Mishlei (Proverbs) Iyov (Job) Shir Ha-Shirim (Song of Songs) Ruth Eikhah (Lamentations) Qoheleth (the author's name) (Ecclesiastes) Esther Daniel Ezra & Nechemyah (Nehemiah) (treated as one book) Divrei Ha-Yuma (The words of the days) (Chronicles) Written Torah is often referred to as the Tanakh, which is an acrostic of Torah, Nevi'im and Ketuvim. 68 The Tallit (Tah-LEET) The Jewish Prayer Cloth
Hebrew: Tyzt Plural: Tah.leh.tot Tallit Gadul: Larger garment worn outside Tallit Katan: small garment usually worn under the clothing. Also known as the arba kanfat meaning 4 wings Lillie Rose Ministries

69 Lillie Rose Ministries
Tallit Gadul Lillie Rose Ministries

70 Lillie Rose Ministries
Tallit Gadul The Rabbinic Jewish men are required to wear the tallit. Among the Reformed Jews, the use of the tallit declined in the 20th century but recently it is returning and the wearing of it has gained new favor. Most synagogues keep a rack of extras for visitors. (like ties and coats in a restaurant). These tallitot are usually plain and simple. It is consider a NO-NO for a non-Jew to put on a tallit unless they are studying or preparing to convert to Judaism. Lillie Rose Ministries

71 Tallit Katan Small tallit worn underneath clothing 16” X 16” Tzitzit
Not worn next to the body but between the undershirt and the outer shirt. Must be at least 16” by 16”. Orthodox Jews wear this even today. Tzitzit Lillie Rose Ministries

72 Lillie Rose Ministries
Ata.rah (Neckband) neckband This is also called the crown and indicated basically, THIS SIDE UP. There is a blessing which is usually said while putting on the tallit, Lillie Rose Ministries

73 Ata.rah Written on the neckband:
Because thou hath made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in thy ways. Psalm 91 Psalm 91: 9-11 (Thy ways: amplified “of obedience” so remember this the next time you charge your angels in the car and then speed down the road in disobedience to civil law. Lillie Rose Ministries

74 Kissing the Tallit A sign of respect
Lillie Rose Ministries

75 There is a blessing which is sewn into the tallit and said when donning the tallit.
Blessed are You, our God, Creator of time and space and who enriches our lives with holiness… commanding us to wrap ourselves in the tallit. Notice the words wrap ourselves in – not wear When wrapped in the tallit, a Jew was in his prayer closet. Some Jews have called this the ultimate security blanket and when they put it on, they visualize it as pure light. The Record: Bergen, NJ God’s Promise of Protection and our reminder to obey all His commandments, Lillie Rose Ministries

76 Blessing after donning the tallit…
HOW PRECIOUS IS YOUR KINDNESS, O ' GOD! MANKIND IN THE SHELTER OF YOUR WINGS TAKES REFUGE. THEY WILL BE SATED FROM THE ABUNDANCE OF YOUR HOUSE, AND FROM THAT STREAM OF YOUR DELIGHTS YOU GIVE THEM TO DRINK. FOR WITH YOU IS THE SOURCE OF LIFE: BY YOUR LIGHT MAY WE SEE LIGHT. EXTEND YOUR KINDNESS TO THOSE WHO KNOW YOU, AND YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS TO THE UPRIGHT OF HEART. Lillie Rose Ministries

77 Lillie Rose Ministries
Tallit Gadul Tzitzit The tallit is usually worn for a lifetime and is NEVER discarded. A threadbare tallit is treated with great respect (much like our flag). The tradition is that a man be buried only in his kittle and his tallit draped over him; however, the neckband and one tassel (tzitzit) is removed which renders the tallit invalid. Very important so remember this and I will explain more latter.. Lillie Rose Ministries

78 Lillie Rose Ministries
Kittle Jewish men were buried with a only a simple linen shroud called a kittle and their tallit with neckband (atarah) removed and the 4 tzitzits cut off. The cutting off of the tzitzits from the tallit is to render the garment INVALID. This person no longer has the choice to obey God or not. Their authority is removed. Jesus was wrapped in a kittle or burial shroud. Some consider the Shroud of Turin his burial cloth. Plain linen. Lillie Rose Ministries

79 Lillie Rose Ministries
Tallit Gadul for Women Some modern Orthodox authorities are now even permitting the wearing of a tallit by women. This is really progressive since as the tallit is considered a men’s garment and women are prohibited from wearing men’s garments in Duet 20:5 “A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination before the Lord you God. Notice the arrow: It is customary when publicly reading the Torah to place the corner (Tzitzit) on the first word to be read (wrapped around the Yad or pointer, then kiss the corner of the tallit. Lillie Rose Ministries

80 Lillie Rose Ministries
Modern Woman’s Tallit Lillie Rose Ministries

81 Reading the Torah with the Yad
Yad (Pointer) You are not supposed to touch the parchment on these scrolls; some say because they are too holy; some say because the parchment, made from animal skins, is a source of ritual defilement; others say because your fingers' sweat has acids that will damage the parchment over time. Instead, you follow the text with a pointer, called a Yad. "Yad" means "hand" in Hebrew, and the pointer usually is in the shape of a hand with a pointing index finger (I always find this incredibly amusing). The scrolls are kept covered with fabric, and often ornamented with silver crowns on the handles of the scrolls and a silver breastplate on the front. Lillie Rose Ministries

82 Lillie Rose Ministries
Tallit The tallit is worn today… during the Jewish morning services (Shacharit prayers) in Judaism, during Torah Service, Yom Kippur and other Holidays (117 days). The tallit is considered “holy” and is always treated with respect….. NEVER worn in bathrooms. Lillie Rose Ministries

83 Lillie Rose Ministries
Tassels (tzi.zit) Pronounced seat.seat (Key part of the tallit, represents authority) At the 4 corner of the tallit are tassels attached in fulfillment of the biblical commandment of Numbers 15: Special twisted and knotted fringes known as tzizit attached to the 4 corners (2 worn in the back and 2 in the front)… Also, sometimes referred to as the arba kanfat, meaning 4 wings. Now, back to the Tallit…. Lillie Rose Ministries

84 Threads in the tzitzit…
There are 4 threads in the tzitzit (tassel, fringe). These threads are doubled over, thus making 8 threads. There are 3 shorts thread of white and 1 longer thread of blue. These threads are tied with a series of 5 knots. Lillie Rose Ministries

85 Tek.he.let Techailis The blue dye used in the zitzit.
Orthodox Jews do not use the blue thread or blue stripes as the blue dye was lost in 70 AD and it is considered sacrilege to try to duplicate the blue color. However, we know that this is one of the signs of the end times as the blue dye from the Mediterranean sea snail was the source and has suddenly re-appeared in the Mediterranean. Lillie Rose Ministries

86 Lillie Rose Ministries
Why blue? The answer is, "Because this color resembles the sea, the sea resembles the sky, and the sky resembles the ‘Chair of Glory,’ of which it is said, ‘Under His feet a sapphire stone’" (Men. 43b) Blue thus symbolizes the origin (Heaven) of the commandments. Lillie Rose Ministries

87 Lillie Rose Ministries
Blue The blue thread is a special shade of blue with prophetic inference. It is a heavenly color with a heavenly focus to remind us of where God abides. The blue cord of the ẓiẓit was dyed with the blood from a small gland of the "ḥaluzn’ (snail which appeared but once in 70 years) in the Mediterranean Sea. Lillie Rose Ministries

88 Lillie Rose Ministries
Blue In ancient times, blue was the MOST EXPENSIVE color to make… Lillie Rose Ministries

89 Prophecy of the tallit…
It took 12,000 of these sea snail to make 1 thimble full of blue (purplish) dye. It was extremely expensive! At today’s values, 1 pound of linen dyed in blue was worth $36,000! Even a single thread of blue was of such value that it was passed on from one generation to another. It was reserved for Royalty and the Priesthood. A priest’s robe was made entirely of blue linen and was prophetic in meaning, a shadow of the High Priest who was to come. Lillie Rose Ministries

90 Lillie Rose Ministries
Tekhelet Dye The Mediterranean Sea Snail went extinct after the Jews were dispersed in 70 AD. The formula for making the tekhelet dye was lost in the 7th century. In 1995, a small group of Rabbis rediscovered the lost formula papers and the Mediterranean Sea Snail has miraculously reappeared in the Sea. 93 PROPHECY AND THE TEMPLE INSTITUTE
By designing the architectural plans for the future Temple, by making all the implements needed for future Temple Worship, by locating and training Levitical Priest in animal sacrifice, by using the formula for tekelet dye to dye the Priest’s garments, and by attempting to lay the corner of the Temple, the Temple Institute is helping to fulfill the prophecy of a rebuilt Temple in the Last Days! Prophetic scriptures say that the Temple will be rebuilt in the LAST DAYS! Lillie Rose Ministries

94 THE TEMPLE WILL BE REBUILT SOON!

Why white? White is used as it represents light and righteousness. Jesus is THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD and He became our RIGHTEOUSNESS. The white in the tallit and tzitzits is prophetic, a shadow of WHO was to come. Lillie Rose Ministries

98 Flag of Israel (Blue and White Flying Prophecy)
The flag of Israel is a constant reminder of their ONE GOD and their command to obey the Commandments of God (law or walk) every Day! When the Jews of Israel fly their flag, they are announcing to the world: We are God’s chosen ones! He is our God and there is none other! It is a flying tallit! Lillie Rose Ministries

99 Holiness of the Jewish Prayer Cloth
The Jewish men wore these garments with the long tassels on the outside so that everyone could see then and so that they themselves could see them to remember the Law and to remember to obey them. (not to give into their own thoughts…) (3) The word Law….the Hebrew word for law means “walk” They were to remember to walk the commandments daily, hourly, minute by minute….. in their homes at their jobs in their military Look out ACLU! Their lives were not to be holy just on the holy day of the Sabboth (Sunday), but everyday, everywhere, doing everything…. The tassels were visual so that they could remember all 613 Commandments (and we have trouble with 10?) This would be our modern day equivalent to a Bible on a rope, hung around our necks… Lillie Rose Ministries

100 Tallit, a Prayer Closet… Matthew 6:6
When a Jewish man wrapped himself in his tallit (prayer cloth or shawl), he was literally closing himself in with the Light and Righteousness of the One God of heaven, Y-H-W-H. He entered into his prayer closet with a Holy God. Lillie Rose Ministries

V.7 but when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathens do, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them; For your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask him Matthew 6:6 But, thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut the door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. V.7 but when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them; For your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask him….then the model prayer Lord’s prayer….. Jewish men put the garment (the prayer mantle) over their heads and closed the door…they locked out the world and they locked in God….for a conversation….a dialogue: they speak; God speaks; they speak; God speaks……they went into their prayer closet with God to pray. They held the tzitzits in their hands while they prayed…the tassels that not only reminded then to walk the commandments but also represented the name of God. Lillie Rose Ministries

105 Mark 6: 53-67 Jesus’ reputation as a healer.
When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret and anchored there. And when they came out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him, Ran thought that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was. Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or country they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged Him that they might just tough the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well. Lillie Rose Ministries

106 Jesus wore a tallit…WHY?
1. He was a practicing, observant Jew. 2. He wanted to be recognized. ( ex. woman at the well; woman with the issue of blood) He wanted to demonstrate that He is prophecy fulfilled; He is the promised Jewish Messiah Who had come with authority. Lillie Rose Ministries

107 Woman with the issue of blood…
Matthew 9:20-22 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment: For she said, within herself, If I may but touch his garment I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. Lillie Rose Ministries

108 Woman with the issue of blood…
Luke 8:43-48 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me; for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him and how she was healed immediately. And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace. Virtue: Dudamas Divine energy Unclean woman: women were set outside of the camp for that weekly curse (plague). She could not touch anyone or be touched by anyone. She was an outcast and if she did touch or was touched, she had broken the Law of God. Imagine what she looked like, women. 12 years….no relief…..pale, anemic, tired…not likely well dressed as she dared not go shopping in a crowd and she had spent all her money on doctors Lonely! Maybe even a street person by this time. She no doubt heard about Jesus and had to see him. She was not bothered by the big crowd. She did not think that he is too busy to care about my problem…Undaunted by the fact that he was on his way somewhere else. (Ruler of the synagogue, Jairus had already approached him about his 12 year old daughter who was dying…..) This woman was DESPERATE! And, desperate people do desperate things even when the situation looks impossible…..She was like a “dog on a bone”. She was not going to let anything get in her way. She followed the crowd, the great multitude, the throng….She pressed in… She came from behind, no doubt thinking about her strategy to touch Jesus… Lillie Rose Ministries

109 Woman with the issue of blood…
Mark 5:25-34 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse. When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of the blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing within himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked around about to see her that had done this thing, But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague, Lillie Rose Ministries

The woman with the issue of blood was reaching to touch what?... the tzitzit (kanaph: tassels, fringes, wings, hem) But touch him where? Matthew: touch the HEM of his garment Mark: touch his garment Luke: touch the BORDER of his garment Jesus said, Who touched my clothes? What is the significance of the garment, the hem of the garment, the border of the garment? Again, touched the (Matt: 9:20) Hem…the (Luke 9: 43) BORDER… of his garment. What garment?. We always think of this as being his robe, but we must understand the Bible from a Jewish point of view, from Jewish culture! The garment is the Tallit. The border in Greek means tassels She wanted to touch the tassels, but why? Tassels Lillie Rose Ministries

Numbers 15:37-41 38. Again the Lord spoke to Moses saying, “Speak to the children of Israel: Tell them to make tassels [ kanaph: fringes, tzitzits, wings, hem, skirt] on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and put a blue thread in the tassels of the corners. 39. And you shall have the tassel [fringes, tzitzits, wings, hem, skirt], that you may look upon it and remember all the commandment of the Lord and do them, and that you may not follow the harlotry to which your own heart and your own eyes are inclined, 40. And that you may remember and do all My commandments, and be holy for your God. 41. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God; I am the Lord your God.” Numbers 15: esp v fringes (KJ) these were known as the tzitzits in Hebrew. The fringes or tassels were attached on the 4 corners of the tallit. Righteousness is a gift of salvation; holiness is obeying God and is earned.. There was to be a blue ribbon (thread) in the fringes. Why? To (1)remember God’s commandments and to (2) do them. In ancient Israel, men wore this 4 cornered outer garment or tunic (which later became smaller and not worn everyday or even on the outside… which later developed into the more causual prayer shawl.) Elijah distressed… Lillie Rose Ministries

He went into a cave and hid his face in his mantle (shawl, tallit) and complained to God. I Kings 19:13 Lillie Rose Ministries

195 Lillie Rose Ministries
I Kings 19:13 And, it was so, that when Elijah heard it that he wrapped his face in his mantle [tallit], and went out and stood in the entering in the cave……. Lillie Rose Ministries

203 Lillie Rose Ministries
II Kings 2:9-10 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijzh said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing; nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee it shall be so unto thee, but if not it shall not be so. Lillie Rose Ministries

204 Lillie Rose Ministries
See me…? Elijah was telling Elisha, if you remain by my side and are faithful in serving God and in serving with me, you will get the double anointing. If you do not, you will not get the double anointing you desire. So, what did Elisha do…….? Lillie Rose Ministries

205 Elijah’s Authority Transferred
Elisha stayed by Elijah’s side. When Elijah was raptured his mantle fell from the sky. Elisha picked up the tallit and smote the water with the tzitzits (symbol of authority) of his new mantle (tallit, prayer shawl) and received a double portion of the anointing. Lillie Rose Ministries

206 Lillie Rose Ministries
II Kings 2:11 & 13 11And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted then both asunder; and Elijah sent up by whirlwind into heaven [raptured]. 13He took up also the mantle [tallit] of Elijah that fell from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordon. Ruth blessed… Lillie Rose Ministries

210 Ruth Goes Under Authority
A widowed woman was left with 2 daughter-in-laws (not Jewish) who also were without husbands. Naomi wanted to go back to her homeland and she encouraged her daughter-in-laws to go back to their homelands to find husbands. Ruth (a Moabite) would not leave Naomi as she felt somehow linked to Naomi’s authority. Lillie Rose Ministries

211 Lillie Rose Ministries
Boaz Naomi had other relatives who could pay the price for Ruth (a Moabitess) so that she could re-enter. Ruth 2:1 Boaz (a kinsman redeemer) was chosen to take Ruth who had grace (undeserved mercy) upon her. Lillie Rose Ministries

212 Lillie Rose Ministries

216 The Story of Ruth is a Picture
Boaz was to be Ruth’s redeemer. This is a picture of what Christ is to us. He is our kinsman redeemer! We were once outside the covenant of God, just as Ruth the Moabitis. One from THE household Who was like us, and He redeemed us! Lillie Rose Ministries

217 Are you under authority?
You can have the office and still not be under authority. You can try to enlarge your own borders and still have no authority. You may not be doing the really “bad” sins, but we can still not be under His wings, authority. Lillie Rose Ministries

218 Under the Wings of Authority
When you are covered under God’s wings (authority), you are saying, “I am marked. I am in God’s army. You give the command, God and I will go!” You take your orders from God’s authority and you march with them. Lillie Rose Ministries

221 The Hebrews crossed the line…
The Hebrews had begun to mingle in marriage with the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Eqyptians and the Amorites. Why was this a bad thing? The “holy seed” (the blood line of the promised Messiah) mingled with the heathen. The princes and rulers were especially guilty of this. They were polluting the blood line of the promised Messiah.. Lillie Rose Ministries

222 Lillie Rose Ministries
Ezra 9: 5 And at the evening sacrifice I arose upon from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle (tallit), I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands to God. Lillie Rose Ministries

Wailing Wall in Israel They covered themselves with the presence of God…..God is light! They got alone in their prayer closets (Greek word, chamber or inner room) in the presence of God….they were not distracted by the honking camels, the merchants, the children and wife, the neighbors dogs (phone, doorbell, etc)….. Remember, the words about not carrying on with your prayers as the heathen do? Sadducees and Pharisees? Known for their long-winded, loud prayers to be seen. Long mantras with vain repetitions….. This is our model to be consumed with and in our prayer…. When a Jewish man wore his mantle, he closed out everything, he excluded everything in his life, he suspended his worldly thoughts….
