4 Foil - n. character with an opposite personality of the main character Robin is Batman’s foil.

5 Chivalry – n. bravery; heroism The knight in shining armor gave a chivalrous bow before the queen.

6 Opponent – n. enemy; foe; adversary I will destroy my opponent with my wit and skill.

7 Scrawny – adj. skinny

8 Affable – adj. pleasant; friendly Ted, my next door neighbor, always gives me an affable wave when I see him in the morning.

9 Disconcerted – v. Confused; unsettled; disturbing The impending volcano eruption disconcerted Veronica.

10 Ingenuity – n. Cleverness The online educational program, Edgenuity, gets its name from a play on the words, “ingenuity,” and “education.”

11 Lucidity – n. quality of being readily understood, clear; clarity The math problem lacked lucidity, but after Mrs. Spearmon explained it to me, I understood how to get the answer.

12 Renown – n. a state of being widely praised; fame Do you know these people of great renown?

13 Interminable – adj. having or seeming to have no end The test seemed so tedious, with an interminable length.

14 Redress – v. to correct or make up for a wrong or a loss The mob of angry citizens demanded the government redress their grievances.
