3 5 May 2008 5 May 2008 What is METBENCH / MCMS ? METBENCH is a Net Centric enterprise IT solution for the Metrology and Calibration that: Automates calibration processes to reduce cost, improve work flow and improve quality Improves execution of the technical authority process Replaces five legacy lab management applications in depot labs due for sunset under the CNO IT application reduction initiative Replaces two afloat applications on SURFOR platforms Provides enterprise wide end to end visibility of calibration readiness and asset tracking – afloat and ashore Automates Calibration, Production management and QA for cal labs Improves Sailor quality of life afloat and facilitates moving workload ashore Automates collection of calibration work results and metrics Ensures data quality and integrity necessary for engineering analysis Integrates CRL with afloat recall and inventory management MCMS - A browser based software module of METBENCH, MCMS stands for METBENCH Calibration Management System that manages all portable and CRL assets within METBENCH including asset recall, enterprise wide asset tracking to reduce sailor calibration workload and for moving workload ashore with the goal of reducing calibration costs across the enterprise 3 Met-Cal Overview for FFC Rev 0 Met-Cal Overview for FFC Rev 0 3 3 3

4 METBENCH Enterprise Architecture
Distributed architecture provides full functionality locally without Internet access to the replication server Each site maintains its own web server in the form of a METBENCH Master Controller. Minimizes bandwidth requirements and eliminates a single point of failure in the system.

5 METBENCH Components Automated Procedure Execution
METBENCH Procedure Creation Significantly increases calibration efficiency Eliminates technical errors Increases equipment availability Lowers required skill set to perform calibration Preserves investment in ~5000 existing procedures Standardizes procedures across System Commands Facilitates automated procedure creation without computer programming Calibration Asset Management Afloat Calibration Laboratory Management Reduces Sailor workload Aligns Shipboard and ashore communities Facilitates movement of workload ashore Increases data quality Provides Ship to Shore asset tracking Increases data quality Standardizes processes across Navy labs Ensures configuration control

17 Backup Slide METBENCH Automated Calibration at the bench top
Electronic audit trail of all calibration activity Interfaces to laboratory management system Preserves investment in nearly 5000 existing procedures Facilitates rapid calibration procedure conversion Dynamic Standard Substitution - Allows singling up of procedures for a given UUT Natural Language Editor for procedure conversion Operates in both networked and non-networked modes Reduces configuration management costs Customized Linux operating system Utilizes COTS computers as controllers Controllers contain no hard drive. Ensures reusability of procedure elements Relation database provides easy access to existing methods Facilitates standards modernization, while preserving investment Collects parametric data on all calibrations Patents on 7 areas of innovation METBENCH SEQUENCER
