Inheriting your promised land Part 9 What’s keeping me out of my promised land?

“This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites.” Joshua 3:10

Although I don’t have to fight any Canaanites, Hittites Perizzites… I do have to FIGHT

“Fight the good fight of the faith.” 1 Timothy 6:12 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

1. I have an enemy who must be fought on a spiritual level.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12

I am being attacked. “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

Since I don’t recognize that I am being attacked by the enemy, I rationalize away what is happening to me by such thoughts as:

“I’m in a bad mood.” “Things just didn’t go my way.” “I need to try harder.” “He’s / she’s acting like a jerk

“The question is not, am I spiritually oppressed, but Where and How?

I have an enemy and he is trying to: Steal my freedom, Kill my heart, Destroy my life and Keep me out of the Promised Land that God has for me.

2. I have to fight with spiritual weapons. “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.” 2 Cor 4:10

“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground…Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” Eph 6:13-18

Everyday, I must put on the full armor of God. “…in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left…” 2 Cor 6:7

3. This week’s assignment A. Become aware of when you are being attacked.

What am I thinking? What am I feeling? What am I worrying about?

Is there any worry, fear or anger? What lie is he whispering to me? “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:37
