Levetidsforlengelse av Existerende felt Oppgradering av kontrollsystemer subsea Erfaringer og losninger fra Tordis og Vigdis February 8 th 2012

IFEA – Feb 2012 Need to adapt to changing field situations over time Up front field knowledge is often limited and reservoirs significantly change over time Managing older assets is often limited by old technology, instrumentation and flow control New reserves becoming more difficult / costly to develop Transfer of older assets to new producers creates a need for offerings that will maximize assets performance Equipment obsolescence challenge for older fields Field life extending well beyond original design dates How to solve the changing operations puzzle?  The Technology Insertion Solution How to solve the changing operations puzzle?  The Technology Insertion Solution

IFEA – Feb 2012 The Brownfield technology time bomb Obsolete equipment Coming to end of natural life Long repair times, often needing re-engineering Today 1983 Compared to other industries much shorter expected operational life – affects availability of your equipment

IFEA – Feb 2012 Enhanced oil recovery from ageing assets The Brownfield Opportunity

IFEA – Feb 2012 Improved performance thru technology insertion SemStar5 Other subsea equipment Sensor upgrades SmartCenter remote link Flow loop insertion ModPod Existing field - plus increased viability of marginal extensions & tiebacks by incorporating key technologies Increased subsea functionality & processing power Efficiency gains from subsea systems integration More immediate support from virtual experts Improved flow by better information, better control

IFEA – Feb 2012 SemStar5 – next generation intelligence on the seabed Subsea TCP/IP Network Modular Approach IP Enabled Remote Connectivity Subsea Data Hub Enhanced Diagnostic capability SIIS & IWIS fully compatible Standard Sensor Interface Fully ISO 13628-6 Compliant SEM Supports for future topologies & architectures

IFEA – Feb 2012 SCM SCMMB * Adaptor Existing SCMMB* Multi-product interface adaptor Production, injection & manifold installation More retrofit options Enables SCM & SEM consistency across installed base Simplifies tooling requirements Faster intervention operations Solution available, only minor changes each installation ModPod Insertion into older fields

IFEA – Feb 2012 TVCM Case Study - Upgrading control system infrastructure in 2 fields First oil : Tordis (1994)Vigdis (1997) Depth:200-300 metres Scope: Tordis 15 SCMs (GE + other OEM) Vigdis12 SCMs (GE) Vigdis Broad scope solution for Tordis & Vigdis fields Retrofit of all subsea SCM’s New electrical distribution system Replace topside control systems Addition of new sensors

IFEA – Feb 2012

Greater reliability Less intervention & diagnostics checks Better monitoring Earlier error detection & prevention Technology is SmartCenter enabled Field life extension Impact of potential obsolescence Faster issue resolution SemStar5 … speed & expansion Processing power Architecture enables “plug & play” Strong customer benefits upon project execution

IFEA – Feb 2012 Leveraging each field’s unique status can produce an optimized sustainability solution Implementation risk and deployment timescale can be minimized - by developing a sustainable solution from a suite of proven units and techniques ……… and finally technology insertion for performance reasons can also give a step change in mitigating obsolescence risk technology insertion to mitigate obsolescence risk gives the opportunity to improve field performance, enhanced oil recovery and increased availability Field sustainability - Enhanced performance from bespoke solutions

IFEA – Feb 2012  The adaptor plate between the SCM and XT was easier to implement than expected The same was true for other 3 rd party equipment.  Communication routing was a big challenge mainly because Ethernet subsea is a new application. Traffic priority was also demanding and required expert IT expertise to resolve issues.  LCI documentation for existing equipment was a much larger amount of work than planned.  EFAT and SIT were very challenging and required very detailed and rigorous procedures, both for the electrical and mechanical interfaces. This was especially important regarding the interfaces between old and new equipment.  Offshore Installation and commissioning have gone very well mainly due to the conscientious testing and development of the appropriate test equipment and tools. Experiences
