My Special Number My Special Number Afrin12/10/2007 Roll over

My Special Number Why I chose this number….  It is my lucky number.  It has a factor(5), that is the number of letters in my name A F R I N.  My grandmother is 60 years old.  I am 10 years old, and my cousin sister is 6 years old, 10x6=60. Why I chose this number….  It is my lucky number.  It has a factor(5), that is the number of letters in my name A F R I N.  My grandmother is 60 years old.  I am 10 years old, and my cousin sister is 6 years old, 10x6=60. My special number is 60

My Special Number Mathematical facts about my number- Factors -1,2,3,4,5,6,10,12,15,20,30,60, because all of these numbers divide evenly into 60. Product of :60x1=60, 30x2=60, 20x3=60, 15x4=60, 10x6, 12x5 Proper Factors-1,2,3,4,5,6,10,12,15,20,30, because these are all the factors of 60 except for the number itself.

Divisors-1,2,3,4,5,6,10,12,15,20,30,60, because all of these numbers divide evenly into 60 (60x1) (60x2) (60x3) (60x4 ) (60x5) (60x6) ( 60x7) (60x8) (60x9 ) (60x10) Multiples: 60,120,180,240,300,360,420,480,540,600 Divisible by-1,2,3,4,5,6,10,12,15,20,30,60, because 60 can be divided evenly by these numbers 60 is a composite number because 60 has more than 2 factors. 60 is an abundant number, because all the proper factors of 60 add up to more than 60. 1+2+3+4+5+10+5+20+30=108>60

60 is not a square number, because the square root of 60 is not a whole number-(7.74596….) Sum of (numbers when added together make 60) 59+1=60, 58+2=60…etc. Difference between (numbers when subtracted by each other, make 60) 90 and 30 is 60, 85-25=60, 70- 10=60….etc. Prime Factorization-2x2x3x5=60

Remainder- 60 divided by 7=8 – Remainder is 4. Similarly 60 divided by 9=6 – remainder is four. etc. Quotient of: 180 divided 3 = quotient is 60, 240 divided by 4 = quotient is 60. Dividend: eg. 60 divided by 4 =15, here, 60 is the dividend. Being ten times a perfect number(6), 60 is a semiperfect number. Click here

Dimensons of a rectangle are the lengths of its sides. For example- 6 10

My Special Number Mathematical Reflections 1- Mathematical Reflections 1-  I’ve learned that none of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 or 9,(on the factor list, in the product game) can be multiplied by each other to get my special number, 60. I found out by factor pairs (in this case, none of the factor pairs of 60 can be made with the numbers on the factor list).  My number would not be a good first move in either of the games (factor and product game) because in the factor game, there isn’t a 60 on the board, and even if there was a 60, it wouldn’t have been a good move because it is an abundant number, so you get 60, but the opponent gets 108. 108>60. And in the product game, none of the factors can be multiplied by each other to get 60, therefore 60 can’t be on the board.

My Special Number Mathematical Reflections 2- MMMMy number has 6 factor pairs-1x60, 2x30, 3x20, 4x15, 5x12, 6x10 MMMMy number is an even number, because 60 has 2 as a factor. (2 goes evenly into 60, 30 times). 66660 is not a square No. because if we make a rectangle for 60, the tiles will not be able to form a square. Secondly the square root of 60 is not a whole number.

Mathematical Reflections 3- TTTThe least common multiple of 20 and 30 is 60, because Multiples of 20=20,40,60,80,100,120..etc.Multiples of 30=30,60,90,120,150..etc. LCM=60. LCM of 15 and 20 is 60, because Multiples of 15= 15,30,45,60,75…. Multiples of 20= 20,40,60,80,100….LCM=60 TTTThe Greatest common Factor of 120 and 180 is 60, because Factors of 120:1,2,3,4,5,6,10,12,15,20,30,60,120. Factors of 180:1,2,3,4,5,6,9,10,15,20,30, 60,90,180. GCF=60. Similarly GCF of 240 and 300 is 60, because Factors of 240:1,2,3,4,5,6,8,10,12,15,20,30,60,120,240. Factors of 300:1,2,3,4,5,6,10,15,20,30,50,60,75,100,150,300. GCF=60.

Mathematical Reflections 4-  The prime factorization of 60 is 2x2x3x5, because this is the unique string of prime factors resulting to (product) 60.  Exponent of the prime factorization of 60:2 2 x3x5  60 and 61 are relatively prime, because their GCF is 1.

My Special Number Connections- Fun Facts: Crocodiles lay 60 eggs and incubate them for 60 days! A flower named Bambey Rose has approximately 60 petals! There are 60 species of moss in Antarctica The average depth of the Irish Sea is 60 meters Daily life: 60 seconds in one minute 60 minutes in one hour

My Special Number Cultural : There are five elements and twelve animals in the Japanese cycle of life combining to make a 60 year cycle. Chinese astrologers use a 60 year cycle and lunar calendar 60 th anniversary is supposed to be a diamond anniversary Historical: The ancient Babylonians used a base 60 number system.

Extra Facts- 60 is the: 30 th even number Product of 2 nd and 15 th even numbers(2x30) is 60 Smallest number with 12 different factors Smallest number divisible by 1 through 6 5 dozen equals to 60 sum of a pair of twin primes (29 + 31)twin primes 3 interior angles of an equilateral triangle each measure 60 degreesequilateral triangledegrees
