18 What you need to know: British patients are inquisitive and need full explanations of treatment options British patients want excellent customer service in a timely manner British patients respect you as a professional once you have proved yourself.

19 What you need to know: There are guidelines that need to be followed: –Antibiotic prophylaxis (new NICE) –IR(ME)R 2000 – Ionisation Radiation Regulations –FGDP(UK) radiography in general practice (BWg & OPG frequency) –NICE (3 rd molars & frequency of recalls) We can help – please ask our consultants

20 What you need to know: No general anaesthetic in general practice Sedation is conscious and governed by standards and guidelines Patients expect local anaesthetic and temporaries Orthodontics is generally done by specialists and free to children on NHS

21 What you need to know: Amalgam is usually the material of choice in posterior fillings involving the occlusal surface All dentists are expected to take x-rays You will regularly see 25 patients a day
