NIMS can help provide the standardization and interoperability required to prevent, prepare for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate the effects of domestic incidents. NIMS is a comprehensive, national approach to incident management that is applicable at all jurisdictional levels and across functional disciplines. The purpose of the National Response Framework is to ensure that all response partners across the Nation understand domestic incident response roles, responsibilities, and relationships in order to respond more effectively to any type of incident. The Framework provides structures for implementing national-level policy and operational coordination for domestic incident response.
