Pride and it’s remedy

Pride is the mask of one’s own faults -Jewish Proverb

To fear the lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. Proverbs 8:13

Sodom’s sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door -Ezekiel 16:49 NLT

Nebuchadnezzar’s second dream He dreamed of a great tree that all seemed to find shelter and food under Daniel, tells the king that the tree was symbolic of him and it was told by a voice in heaven to be cut down and to dwell with the beasts of the field for 7 years He was told that he would lose his kingdom for 7 years unless...

Nebuchadnezzar’s second dream Daniel pleads with the king to humble himself and break off his sins and not think of himself so proudly. Daniel shares with him that the way to do this and perhaps spare his life is by showing mercy to the poor

Nebuchadnezzar’s pride He ruled the known world His net worth would have been in the tens of trillions of dollars He let his power, money, and influence go to his head even though God had warned him of this

one year later... As he looked out across the city, he said, 'Look at this great city of Babylon! By my own mighty power, I have built this beautiful city as my royal residence to display my majestic splendor.'-Daniel 4:30 Immediately he heard a voice, telling him that his kingdom would now be taken from him

one year later... He was told that for 7 years he would live as a beast so that he would know that God rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever He wishes. This was familiar to him as he had been warned in Daniel 2:21 that the King of Heaven was the one that sets up rulers and statesmen

A greater power rules This should be encouraging to us to know that this world is not on a random course and that there is a greater power leading in the lives of kings and presidents even in our day.

7 years later the king is restored to his kingdom His reason and his kingdom returned to him and He stated: "Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and glorify and honor the King of heaven. All his acts are just and true, and he is able to humble the proud."-Daniel 4:37

what does pride have to do with my health? Mind Body Soul

The effects of pride Pride is also described as Vanity or Selfishness. Valuing and putting your own ideas, needs and wants before the felt needs of others.

The effects of pride Pride destroys families It destroys marriages It destroys peace wars, crime, rape, divorce, anger, depression and more

The effects of pride Sadly we are born with selfish pride We are proud of our looks, money, occupation, house, health, cars, material possessions etc...

What is the remedy? These things I think we can all agree are the root of all sins, the root of all problems, the root of all hurt in the home and in our lives

What is the remedy? The Remedy is the exact opposite of pride- HUMILITY To be more specific, how can we learn humility? Through the act of serving others

What are the health benefits of serving others? The pleasure of doing good to others imparts a glow to the feelings which flashes through the nerves, quickens the circulation of the blood, and induces mental and physical health. -TTC 4 p. 56

What happens when we are kind to others? A chemical response occurs in the body. It is believed that Endorphins via Seratonin neurotransmitters are released in the body when we are kind to others.

What happens when we are kind to others? Endorphins react with the body just like opiates would. i.e. opium, morphine, codeine, or heroin There is a direct ‘high’ response with the nervous system

What happens when we are kind to others? The response of the body to these endorphins will actually decrease stress in the body. When stress is decreased, the body’s immune system will improve and allow it to better fight against disease and sickness.

What happens when we are kind to others? When the circulation is improved it allows for the blood to carry more oxygen. When this takes place, the overall high blood pressure and blood sugar in a person will drop.

6 “No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. 7 Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help. The Secret to Happiness

8 Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. -Isaiah 58:6-8 The Secret to Happiness

Humility is the remedy
