2 Anorexia in the U.S.  Up to 24 Million people of all ages and genders suffer from an eating disorder (anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder) in the U.S. (The Renfrew Center Foundation for Eating Disorders, 2003).  An estimated 10-15% of people with anorexia or bulimia are male (Carlat, 1997).  20% of people suffering from anorexia will prematurely die from complications related to their eating disorder including suicide and heart problems (The Renfrew Center Foundation for Eating Disorders, 2003). 3 What is Anorexia Nervosa?  An eating disorder that causes people to obsess about their weight and the food they eat. (Mayo Clinic, 2012)  1. 15% below ideal body weight. Refusing to maintain a normal weight  2. Having an intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, even if underweight.  3.
