4. Ethos, Pathos, and Logos Look at the definitions on the worksheet provided. ◦Pay attention not only to the definition but also the commonly used strategies. On the worksheet, identify an example of each from an article we’ve previously read. Be sure to include a citation with your example. 5. Using Rhetorical Appeals Pick ONE of the two following prompts. Write a short essay answering the prompts in which you use ethos, pathos, and logos. ◦Consider your audience and the format that is most likely to convince that audience (i.e. a formal letter, speech, editorial article, etc.). Option 1: You arrive home 20 minutes past curfew and your parent/guardian decides to ground you for 2 weeks as punishment. Persuade him/her to change his/her mind. Option 2: Your community recreation center could sponsor free lunches for children and teenagers during the summer but does not currently do so. Write an essay in which you convince the director to sponsor free lunches for those children who need them.
