3 What is PULSE? Partnership for Undergraduate Life Sciences Education Initiated as as result of a collaboration between NSF, NIH/NIGMS, and HHMI Charge: to catalyze change in life science education at the departmental level using the recommendations in Vision and Change in Undergraduate Biology Education: A Call to Action

4 A Vision for Implementing Change Integrate core concepts and competencies throughout the undergraduate biology curriculum Focus on student-centered learning  Authentic research experiences  Innovative pedagogical practices – active experiential learning, multiple forms of instruction  Assessment of student learning outcomes Promote a campus-wide commitment to change  Administrative support, faculty development, resources and tools for reform Engage the biology community in implementation
