3 Who are our RECRUITERS? (Rio de Janeiro Our best academy students Our high-profile academy and non-academy students: cheerleaders – athletes – etc. Upper Level Academy Students Academy Director Academy Team Advisory Board Members Guidance Counselors (in our school AND feeder schools) Community Leaders Business and community partners College Partners (especially if you have articulation agreements) District CTE director Administrators both district and school Parents Academy and non-Academy Teachers and Staff Administrators (school and district)

4 Who is our AUDIENCE? (Arusha) We need “everybody” to know about our academy! Students Parents Academy and non-academy teachers and staff Business Partners College Partners Local Community Organizations Media Outlets Anyone & everyone who might influence student decisions

5 Where are our VENUES? (Vienna) We recruit EVERYWHERE! Feeder School Campuses Ninth Grade in your high school Parent Teacher Organization meetings (on campus & off campus) Your business partners’ places of businesses During sporting events During school events both on-campus and feeder school campuses At community events

6 What is our TIMEFRAME? (Thimphu) We recruit all the time! Recruiting never ends! A good academy recruits from day one of the school year A good Academy Team plans recruiting activities to coincide with specific dates that: Students hear about high school choices Students attend district-wide recruiting events Students meet with counselors to make choices for the next year Parents receive high school information from the district Academy teachers look in-house for potential academy students when report cards come out.

7 What TOOLS do we use? (Taipei) With the right tools, we can get the job done. Academy Video: professionally produced Academy Brochure: glossy and professional Student-Centered Brochures: “WIFM: What’s-in-it-for-me? Information Have academy students design it. Make it target-audience centered. The brochure’s contents tell targeted students what the academy can do for them. Include pictures of academy students “benefiting” from the program. Parent-Centered Brochures: “What’s-in-it-for-my-child? Information Academy Giveaways with academy & school name: pens – pencils – post-it notes NAF Materials Web Sites: Our Academy – Our High School – Our School District Special Events: Dress-for-success days, DECA meetings and/or competitions

8 What METHODS do we use? (Millilani Town) How do we recruit for our academy?... for RECRUITING STUDENTS: Have upper level academy students present to students Make the academy visible in the school and feeder schools. Invite students and parents to academy functions. Invite students and parents to academy classes. Feed our target audience—food is a great motivator! Treat our target audience “special”. Review student’s interest surveys and target appropriate groups. Accompany counselors to feeder-school presentations.

10 ... for RECRUITING NON-ACADEMY SCHOOL STAFF: Make the academy visible throughout the school. Invite school staff into academy classrooms. Showcase the academy students and successes. Have academy students make presentations at faculty meetings.

11 ... for RECRUITING COMMUNITY GROUPS: Make the academy visible throughout the community. Invite potential business and community partners into the school. Showcase our school and academy successes.
