I have an enthusiastic collaborator there, permission from my department to take study leave next year, and our work is about the impact of climate change so I think that I am eligible. I am afraid that I couldn't make it to your presentation. I have looked at the webpage and downloaded your slides but am still confused about which scheme to apply for and when the deadlines are. How do I get an application form for RMP and when is the deadline? Would my work be suitable? For RDF I can include a collaborator in Bristol as a third member (they have agreed) but I am confused about how we get matched funding from the university. Do we need funding from all three universities? Can/should I apply for both schemes? Please could you send me the application forms and deadlines, and any advice on applying. Best wishes, julie

5 Karen Tsui 17/09/2013 Dear Julie Thank you for submitting a letter of intent for this year's WUN Research Development Fund (RDF). The review panel consisting of the PVC Research and Innovation, representatives from faculties and RIS received 10 submissions and decided to put though four at this stage. I am pleased to tell you that your proposal has been shortlisted and the panel would like to invite you to submit a full proposal by Monday 14 October 2013. Below are feedback from the panel: Stomata: sensors of climate change · This fits with the Food security and Plant Production and Protection (P3) projects, which are possible candidates for 2022 Futures accreditation. It also fits with the WUN priorities. · The team already looks established and I’m not sure how much value this grant will provide. In the current LOI, there doesn’t appear much willingness to move beyond 2 UK universities and the Sydney partner. I would have thought this could be limiting in the final evaluation stage as the panel will be seeking projects that incorporate as many of their members and certainly from more than two countries – perhaps? · The sustainability of the network looks good as there are plenty of sources for funding. Recent competitions have shown there is money for project teams that come from different continents and this is a relatively new thing so we should aim to gain an advantage from these. · This is a bit too narrow focus as it stands? · Hits the objectives and looks very sustainable.

6 Before 14 October: Extend Network Write proposal and timetable for activities Budgets and CVs Obtain matched funding for all partners Internal deadlines (Sydney 25 Sept/8 Oct) 9 Oct 8 Oct/14 Oct

7 23 Oct, Karen: The panel believed you have great/diverse partners and the team will be a productive one. They wondered, however, is there any scope of involving PhD students better? Can more be done to secure the longevity of the current collaboration? 5 Dec, Karen: It is good news indeed. We submitted seven and five got funded including two leading RDFs. Yours was funded in full…
