1 Natural latex rubber comes from trees. Discovered by columbus on his 2 nd trip to the Americas in Haiti (caw-uchu = “weeping wood”) Natives used it for basketball and to “rubberize” footwear. Given the name “rubber” by Joseph Priestly, 1770 because it could rub off pencil marks. Queen Victoria’s Carriage Tires made of rubber 1846 Hevea brasiliensis is the most popular tree -- grows 50 ft high Transplanted by the English to Asia where it thrives. 42% of rubber is still produced naturally. http://www.cementex.com/index.asp?ID=3&PageAction=Custom http://www.immune.com/rubber/nr1.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber

3 Woofers used to use natural rubber on cloth surrounds (I think). Now we use this urethane stuff. Someone restored these classic AR3a’s with a modern surround. As tragic as painting an old car with urethane paint.
