Sources of Shaming Thoughts  Other People  Ourselves Jeremiah 17:9 reveals… The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

Sources of Shaming Thoughts Shaming Events  In the moment of a shaming or traumatic event, we often tell ourselves a lie, or hear a lie from the offender, or from the kingdom of darkness.

Sources of Shaming Thoughts  The ongoing struggle— be it an addiction, or anger, or shame, or whatever—is not from the event, but from the lie we are still believing implanted in that event.

Replacing Lies with Truth

The Five Lies from Hell  I will not reap what I sow. Galatians 6:7-8 warns…  “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”

The Five Lies from Hell  God will not hold me accountable for my life. 2 Corinthians 5:10…  “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.”

The Five Lies from Hell  God promises to make me happy.  The purpose of this life is to prepare us for our eternal positions of leadership in God’s coming kingdom, not to have the best possible life now.  Life right now is boot camp, not a vacation.

The Six Lies from Hell  I have the right to oppress others.  God is good, but not good enough.  God’s love is conditional on my behavior.

Renewing the Mind Romans 12:1-2  “I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

Renewing the Mind Romans 12:1-2  “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Renewing the Mind Romans 8:5-8  “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.”
