I Timothy 2:11-14 (NKJV) 11 Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. 12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

Women In Worship I Timothy 2:11-14

Women In Worship A few weeks ago, a young lady made news in the brotherhood by accepting a preaching internship with a church in Tennessee This was not done quietly, as the church there made a video advertising the move

Women In Worship The preacher at that congregation defended the decision by pushing the apostle Paul’s words aside as simply “cultural” and not having the weight of the words of Christ The young lady also defended her decision, but in a much different way…

Women In Worship The question in all of this is, “What does the Bible say?” Is what the apostle Paul wrote binding on us today? Did the letters to the various churches contain commands that were meant for only those to whom it was written?

Women In Worship I Timothy 2:11-14 When reading a book of the Bible, there is usually some theme The theme for I Timothy is found in 3:15 Paul was writing Timothy so that he would know the proper conduct in the church

Women In Worship I Timothy 2:11-14 Paul said that a woman was not permitted to teach or to have authority over a man That’s why we see the qualifications for elders & deacons limited to men (3:1-13) Why would Paul say this?

Women In Worship I Timothy 2:11-14 “For Adam was formed first, then Eve” “And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression” This is not a cultural reasoning, rather something that has been since the beginning (Gen. 2 & 3)

Women In Worship I Timothy 2:11-14 God ordered things all the way back in Genesis 3 We see that same order spoken of in regards to the home in Ephesians 5:22-33 The words of Paul here are inspired

Women In Worship I Corinthians 14:33-40 We also have another instance where Paul spoke of women in the worship as well Notice both in verse 33 and in verse 40 that Paul says God wants peace and order God has always been a God of order

Women In Worship I Corinthians 14:33-40 Paul once again lays out God’s will plainly here in this passage He even notes in verse 37 that “the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord” Again, is this simply cultural?

Women In Worship I Corinthians 14:33-40 Did God only want peace, as well as things done decently and in order, only in the church at Corinth? Paul actually gives the same reasoning in I Corinthians as he did in I Timothy I Corinthians 11:3
