2 Folk tale A folk tale is a story based on the traditions of a people or region, told by parents to children and then by the children to their children.

4 Strategy Evaluate -You should evaluate a text by identifying the reason the author has written it.

5 Author’s Purpose PIE!!!! P- persuade I- inform E- entertain

6 Interfere (verb) to take part in the affairs of others when not asked

7 Guardian (noun) someone or something who watches over or protects

8 Agile (adj) able to move and react quickly and easily

9 Tottered (verb) walked or moved with unsteady steps

10 Awkward (adj) without grace in movement or behavior

11 Proclaimed (verb) announced publicly

12 Story Words inhibiting- slowing down or holding back
coiled- moved in a circling or twisting way mesquite- a shrub with thorns that grows in the southwestern United States yucca- a warm climate plant with long leaves, strong stems, and white flowers ruckus- a lot of noise and activity

14 Strategy Evaluate- You should begin evaluating a text by identifying the reason the author has written it. Authors Purpose- An author’s purpose may be to entertain, persuade, instruct or inform.

15 Synonyms A word that has the same or a very similar meaning to another word. You can find synonyms in a thesaurus or a synonym finder. awkward-clumsy agile- graceful tottered- wobbled proclaimed- announced
