“Do This” Luke 22:19

Parent-Teacher Conference Request to meet Topic: behavior of student Teamwork to bring correction Improved learning, mature student “Do this!” – “Let’s meet” More involved that just what Jesus did Calls for correction in attitude, behavior

Elements of His Call to You The call to holiness. The call to die to self-righteousness. The call to obey – no matter the cost. The call to serve.

1. The Call to Holiness. Saying “yes!” to Jesus means saying “no” to sin. The Lord’s Supper reflects the lengths God is willing to go in order to save us from sin. Galatians 5:16-22 Walk in the Spirit, not in the flesh. “But let a man examine himself” (1 Cor. 11:28)

2. A Call to Die to Self-Righteousness If you can “fix” your life spiritually, there would be no need for Calvary’s cross. “By the works of the law shall no flesh be justified in His sight” (Romans 3:20). Self-righteous works are born of pride, supposing we can “measure up” to God’s holy character. Result: humility in the House of God!

3. Obey the Father, Whatever the Cost "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will" (Matthew 26:39) The Love of Jesus is a sacrificial love. Sacrifice: yield something of value for something of GREATER value. What do you “sacrifice” to follow Jesus?

4. The Call to Serve. The Lord’s Supper challenges all disciples to live a life of service: * “and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many“ (Matthew 20:28) * The towel and the basin (John 13:5-9) * “Greater love hath no man than this…” (John 15:13)

Just Do It Feels burdensome? Laying a lot on me? “My yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:30)
