5 The Grand Canal / The Great Wall of China The grand canal was built during the 7 th – 8 th century. It was built to transport goods all the way from the south of China to Beijing. This was good for Chinese people, that way they wouldn’t have to be attacked by pirates while transporting goods. People still use the grand canal today. The Great Wall of China was built 220–206 BC. It was built to keep the Mongolians from attacking China & the Emperor. Unlike the grand canal it isn’t used today. It’s mainly for tourist attractions.

6 Marco Polo He is venetian He was the first European to travel to China. When he returned to Europe he wrote a book about China. He brought back many Chinese inventions back to Europe. For example: he introduced noodles to the west. He also saw the first folding umbrella while in China.

7 My Opinion I think that paper is the Chinese invention that has the biggest impact on people today. Without paper everything would have to memorized and written on bamboo. And the people who learn better by seeing won’t be able to learn anything because they can’t see anything. Paper is used for many things. Not only for learning, but also for art and music.

8 Conclusion The Chinese invented a lot of things. Some of them are paper, umbrella, paper money, soccer, football, gunpowder, compass and more! They also invented the earthquake detector so when an earthquake happened they would know which direction the earthquake happened in. They created the helicopter based on the bamboo toys that the little kids played with. They also learned to plants seeds deep into the ground and in rows so that the birds wouldn’t get to them and they would have enough room to grow. The Chinese invented many things that helps us through our everyday lives. That makes me proud to be Chinese.
