3 ATHLETICS SCORECARD 2012-2013 Department Quick Facts  32 athletic teams – 30 DIII, 2 DI  838 student-athletes; 31% of the student body unduplicated are athletes  1,000 intramural/club participants  29 full or part-time staff members are SLU Alumni – 18 FT w/10+ years of experience  350 fitness club members plus classes offered generates $90,000 of revenue  64 minors in SSES; 350 students enrolled in SSES  11 student-athlete development programs were sponsored this past year  21 University mentors (faculty/staff) worked with athletic programs Academic Quick Facts  Key takeaway: Athletes are equally successful academically as non-athletes but study abroad less  9 teams were recognized Nationally for overall GPA  92 student-athletes earned academic all-conference; 27 athletes named to Deans List; 372 had GPA of 3.0 or higher; 7 current athletes are members of Phi Beta Kappa  Student-athletes declare similar majors as non-athletes and are equally represented in the Sciences  52% of the female athletes participate in semester abroad and 27% for male athletes. Both genders are only 8% lower than non-athletes (1/3 of teams competition falls within 2 semesters)  First-year to sophomore retention rates were 9% higher for athletes (2011-2012)  4-year graduate rates for athletes were 6% higher (2011-2012)

4 INTEGRATION OF ATHLETICS AND ACADEMICS  Key takeaway: Communication is necessary. When there is a concern regarding a student-athlete, it’s most important to call the coach immediately or the Athletic Director.  Department has 2 faculty representatives appointed by the President that work with the department (Cheryl Stuntz and Jim Wallace).  Head coaches have Saints access to academic schedules, GPA’s, midterm warnings (including written warnings) and the student-athlete’s advisor.  Department has a liaison to the academic retention and enhancement committee that is chaired by Evelyn Jennings. This committee includes representatives for the Health Center, Student Life, Disability Services, Academic Support, HEOP and Athletics. The committee meets every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.  Department has a liaison to the Student Life/Residential Coordinators meeting which meets on Monday’s at 3:00 p.m.  Department has a University Mentor Program. The majority of our athletic teams have a volunteer that works with a team to serve as a helpful advisor for athletes.  First-year time management workshops for all first-year students.  Athletic Director sends messages to all head coaches regularly which they relay to their athletes.
