9 X Table I will show you how you can use your hands to help you with your 9X table
3
1 X 9 = 9 Bend your thumb for 1 X 9. Each finger to the right of the bent finger is worth 1. There are 9 units (1’s) to the right, so 1 X 9 = 9
4
2 X 9 = 18 Bend your second finger from the left for 2 X 9. Remember – all fingers to the right are worth 1. All fingers to the left are worth 10. So, 10 + 8 = 18. 2 X 9 = 18
5
3 X 9 = 27 Bend your 3 rd finger for 3 X 9. Remember – 10’s to the left, 1’s to the right. 2 tens + 7 ones = 20 + 7 = 27. 3 X 9 = 27
6
4 X 9 = ? Remember – bend your 4 th finger from the left for 4 X 9. How many tens to the left? How many 1’s to the right? What is the answer? 4 X 9 = ?
7
4 X 9 = 36 Did you get the right answer? 3 tens to the left = 30 6 ones to the right = 6 30 + 6 = 36 4 X 9 = 36
8
5 X 9 = ? You try! 5 x 9 = ?
9
5 X 9 = 45
10
6 X 9 = ? Don’t forget – bend your 6 th finger for 6X9. 1 2 3 4 5 6
11
6 X 9 = 54 5 tens 4 ones 50 + 4 = 54 Were you right? 54
12
7 X 9 = 63 6 x 10 = 60 3 x 1 = 3 7 60 + 3 = 63
13
8 X 9 = 72
14
9 X 9 = ?
15
That’s right! 9 X 9 = 81 80 + 1 = 81
16
10 X 9 = ? That’s a hard one!
17
10 X 9 = 90 What are your hands doing now?
