GRAPES Apulia and its beaty OLIVES ORANGESLEMONS EXIT

OUR ORANGES Orange—specifically, sweet orange—refers to the citrus tree Citrus sinensis and its fruit. The orange is a hybrid of ancient cultivated origin, possibly between pomelo (Citrus maxima) and tangerine (Citrus reticulata). It is a small tree, growing to about 10 m tall, with thorny shoots and evergreen leaves 4-10 cm long.

The word "orange" comes from Sanskrit "narang". Oranges originated in southeast Asia, in either India, Pakistan, Vietnam or southern China. The fruit of Citrus sinensis is called sweet orange to distinguish it from Citrus aurantium, the bitter orange. In several languages it is known as Chinese apple (example: Dutch: Sinaasappel (China's apple).

LEMONS OF ITALY " I believe that the coast stretching from Reggio to Gaeta, both the sides, is the most delightful part of Italy; particulari, there is the tract nearest to Salerno, full of little villages, gardens and fountains, called the Amalfi Coast by its inhabitants..." Boccaccio ( Decameron)

The crusaders, returning from the Palestine, have brought along citrus fuit trees, in order to enjoy it also at home, the taste of the fruit juices which had quenched their thirst during the holy wars. Being quite impossible to grow citrus trees in other environments, they've soon become very precious and requested, especially since the medieval medicine had discovered the benefits of the lemon, like its anti- scorbutic properties.

We cultivate our products then we process and pack them by using only the best citrus fruits harvested at the right moment in our farms and by following traditional processing methods which enhance their fragrance and flavour.

Grapes and Wines The southern portion of the region is a flat and fertile peninsula that forms the characteristic heel of the Italian "boot". The region was settled by several Italic tribes and by Greek colonists before it was conquered by Rome in the 4th century B.C.

Apulia produces more wine than any other Italian region usually making up around 17% of the national total. It also competes with Sicily for first place as grape producer. For a long time much of the wine made here was shipped north to Turin were it was used to make Vermouth, or to France where it was used to give structure to French wines when the local harvest was either poor or insufficient.

Apulia counts 25 DOC wines including the Primitivo di Manduria, Taranto, and a Salice Salentino, a powerful red produced in the Lecce province. Puglia has long seen a prevalence of co- operative wine production.
