What are they? Why do we have them? How do they work?
The Earth is currently divided into 24 major time zones so that everyone in the world can be on roughly similar schedules (noon being roughly when the sun is highest in the sky). Each time zone is one hour later-earlier Distance to the next time zone is 15 degrees longitude The US has 4 time zones… CAN YOU NAME THEM?
The idea to divide the Earth into time zones was proposed by the Canadian railway planner and engineer Sir Sanford Fleming (1827 - 1915) in the 1870’s.
Have you worked for an international corporation? Do you have any interest in business? Companies that are international sometimes must coordinate conference calls with people around the world. Zara is a Spanish company – If they are working with the buyers and executives in New York, you know they have to coordinate when a good time it is to call and discuss business.
ADD and hour for each time zone as you move EAST SUBTRACT an hour for each time zone as you move WEST - 0 + Your place of origin
