11 2009 Friends of Mizzou Picnic & Auction Held Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Pavilion at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit Included a variety of activities: –Live & Silent Auctions –Entertainment by Marching Mizzou Alumni Band –Mizzou Kids Zone –BBQ Dinner Catered by Westport Flea Market –Wine Tastings by the Missouri Grape & Wine Board –Merchandise from Tiger Spirit

15 Tiger Ball 2010 Recap Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center 5,200 alumni in the KC metro area received invitations in the mail (4,000 MAA members) 330 guests in attendance Projected Net Proceeds $40,000 –Net from Operations/Auction$32,594.88 –Net Fund a Need$ 7,405.12 All proceeds benefit the Alumni Scholars Program (local KC kids) and the Tiger Scholarship Fund (Athletics)

17 Public/Community Service

18 Homecoming Blood Drive –23 units were donated at the Community Blood Centers in Kansas City area. These units were included in the Columbia drive for 5,000 units collected this year. Operation Care Package Drive –Worked with Tiger Club at the Colorado watch party and November board meeting to collect DVDs, CDs, paperback books, magazines, playing cards, hand/foot warmers, and snacks. These items were delivered to the Marine Parents Group in Columbia and included in care packages packed for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Harvesters Border Showdown Against Hunger –Participated with University of Kansas on this project prior to the MU/KU football game. –Mizzou raised 83,110 or $8,872 of the $16,622. Mizzou won the competition for the 3rd year. THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO HELPED MAKE THESE PROJECTS SUCCESSFUL!

February, 2010 Received 230 applications for the Mizzou Alumni Association Alumni Scholars scholarship. Chapter to award $35,000 in scholarships to 21 area students. 37 Ad Hoc Research Study- Methodology Distributed by MAA to 9,708 alumni in the five- county KC area with valid email addresses –To enable cross-tabulation, outgoing emails were segmented by geography and age Received 560 partially completed responses and 509 complete responses Three prizes were offered as an incentive for participation Survey was open for two weeks

38 Key Findings: Tiger Ball 87% of respondents had NOT attended No. 1 reason people are not attending: cost prohibitive No. 1 reason people are attending: give back to the chapter scholarship fund Majority of respondents who had attended rated quality of food, venue and auction items as “neutral” or “great”

39 Key Findings: Picnic 69% of respondents had NOT attended No. 1 reason people are not attending: date conflicts with other activities No. 1 reason people are attending: it’s a Mizzou tradition in KC Quality and variety of food received some negative feedback Kids’ Zone received positive feedback Venue received mixed feedback

40 Key Findings: Social/Membership/ Public Service 44% of respondents had attended a watch party or happy hour (71% attended 2+) No. 1 reason people are not attending: afraid I won’t know anyone Most popular social activities: community service/philanthropic, pub crawls and winery tours/tastings Lots of great suggestions for activities

41 Key Findings: Overall There is genuine interest among alumni in wanting to participate in local activities Event communications are not reaching all alumni Fear of not knowing anyone is a deterrent Keep events affordable Friday nights are difficult for many alumni

47 Original Motion – May 2009 “Create a new Ad Hoc Scholarship Committee, to be appointed by Bill Newham, to further explore the details and parameters of the MAA-KC Flagship Scholars Program with the goal of establishing a MAA-Flagship Scholars Program funded by the Chapter” –Motion made by Phil Grubaugh and seconded by Bob Rippy

48 Motion #1 – May 2010 Designate $65,000 of the Chapter’s existing cash reserves to be held in reserve as initial funding for a Jackson County Flagship Scholarship Endowment. Keep the designated $65,000 until such time as the Jackson County Flagship Scholarship Endowment has been formally established and funded with cash or pledges from any source to a total amount of $300,000 or earlier if a future MAA KC Chapter Board of Directors so decides.

49 Motion #2 – May 2010 Recommend that future MAA KC Boards of Directors budget the first $35,000 of each years budgeted scholarship funds for the chapters established Alumni Scholars Program with funds in excess of that amount designated to the Chapter’s Flagship Scholarship program.

50 Motion #3 – May 2010 Appoint an ad hoc Flagship Scholarship Committee to coordinate and assist with local fund raising efforts with the Mizzou Development office, to formulate plans for local fund raising efforts and initiatives and to serve as a resource for existing MAA-KC fund raising committees (Picnic, Tiger Ball, etc.)
