Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 CYCLOPS: Integrating Sensors into the Grid 4 Wireless Sensor Networks Simulation: To replace real sensors with a simulated version, which makes it easier, faster and cheaper to test applications without real hardware. To make it possible to scale a real network (motes) and test applications with a larger input data set. To aid the selection of the best topology and localization of the network, based on type of soil and other geographic criteria.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 CYCLOPS: Integrating Sensors into the Grid 9 DORII-based Prototype: DORII constraints and CJI solutions Real-time control  2 operation modes Offline saving observations  external database Historical log  2 logging modes

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 CYCLOPS: Integrating Sensors into the Grid 10 OGC-based Prototype: standards SensorML  a functional model of the sensor system, rather than a detailed description of its hardware. Observation & Measurements (O&M)  a framework, a conceptual model and an encoding formalized as an application scheme. Sensor Observation Service  an interface to make sensors and their data archives accessible via an interoperable Web based interface. Sensor Planning Service  an interface to task an asset or asset system.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 CYCLOPS: Integrating Sensors into the Grid 13 OGC-based Prototype: Sensor Observation Service SOS implemented operations: DescribeSensor  for requesting information about the sensor itself, encoded in a SensorML instance document GetCapabilities  for requesting a self-description of the service (request the capabilities file of the service) GetObservation  for requesting the pure sensor data, encoded in O&M.

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE EGEE-III INFSO-RI-222667 CYCLOPS: Integrating Sensors into the Grid 15 Conclusions and Future Work 2 functional prototypes, to provide Grid CP applications with data from remote WSN, were developed. Some weaknesses of DORII were identified: –The necessity of having VCR online in order to receive alarms or to perform planned observations. –It imposes constrains to virtualize a network instrument. –Its difficult to share the control among several users and assure their individual jobs integrity. Evaluate if Grid enabled access to sensors is adequate for CP purposes. Define a QoS to guarantee CP applications requirements (real-time functioning, …). Implement a power saving policy in sensors monitoring.
