1 CNTAC SOCHIAS, Santiago 15 Enero 2009 CNTAC -- Background CNTAC=Chilean Telescope Allocation Committee Role: Administer 10% Chilean time on 20 telescopes located at Las Campanas, Tololo, La Silla, Chajnantor 10-12 members from Chilean Institutions and the International Observatories Every semester the CNTAC announces a Call for Proposals, receives the applications, evaluates the proposals, makes the telescope time allocations, and communicates the outcome to the applicants (including scientific comments).

8 CNTAC SOCHIAS, Santiago 15 Enero 2009 CNTAC -- Eligibility Eligible principal investigators (PIs) are the following individuals: Chilean astronomers, defined as a scientist with a M.S. or Ph.D. degree working in a Chilean institution where active scientific research is performed. Chilean graduate students, defined as a student enrolled in a local graduate program. The student must attach to the proposal a letter from his/her supervisor. Visiting astronomers (VA) with a minimum residence of one year in a Chilean institution. The proposal must be sponsored with a letter issued by the head of his/her institution, specifying the type of visitor. The requirement of minimum residence may be exceptionally relaxed to nine months under special circumstances. For more details see www.das.uchile.cl
