Types of Farming Subsistence farming: Due to variable environmental conditions in the world, types of farming have developed.
Shifting Cultivation A patch of the forest area is cleared to grow crops. When fertility of the crop is exhausted, the farmers cultivates a frest patch of land.
Nomadics tribes who move from place to place in search of means of subsistence. These movements are seasonal. Uphill movements during summer and downhills during winter.m
Intensive Farming In these types of farming the farmers tries to get maximum possible output from a small plot of land. Use of simple tools and abundant labour.
Extensive farming is mostly practiced in the sparsely populated areas, where abundant land is available which is suitable for farming.
The livestock are reared along with crop farming. Fodder crops are cultivated along with food crops.
It is also a tyoe of commercial farming. It was introduced by the Europeans in the Tropical and subtropical regions. The farms are called estates and are very large.
Truck gardening: The cultivation of vegetables for direct sale to the consumers and restaurants is called truck gardening. Horticulture: The cultivation of fruits is called horticulture. Pisciculture: The breeding of fish is specially developed ponds. Sericulture: The commercial rearing of silkworms in order to obtain silk is called sericulture.
Viticulture: The cultivation of grapevine for the production of grapes is called viticulture. Floriculture: The cultivation of flowers is called Floriculture.
