3 But First We Have An Activity La Bolsa Misteriosa (The Mystery Bag)

4 La Bolsa Mysetriosa Everybody takes one thing from La Bolsa Mysteriosa. Then I’m going to ask each person about the thing they took What is it (¿Que es ese?) Does it taste good (¿Es delicioso?) What color is it? (¿De qué color es?) *For your help, I will provide you with a handout with some translations

5 La Bolsa Mysetriosa For Example I will go first. I will take something from La Bolsa Mysteriosa What is it (¿Que es ese?) Does it taste good (¿Es delicioso?) What color is that? (¿De qué color ese… ?) Es un… los calzoncillos Es gris/ Los calzoncillos gris (Grey) NO es delicioso. Yo no como los Calzoncillos. It’s not delicious. I do not eat underwear.

Es un/una… Sí es delicioso - (Yes, it’s delicious) No, no es delicioso - (No it is not delicious) No sé (NO-SAY) - (I don’t know) (Say Color from chart) Azul Verde Rojo Rosada Negro Moreno Amarillo Anaranjado Blanco

7 Cultural Influences Puerto Rican food is a combination of 3 cultures Taíno (Native Americans) Spanish (from Spain) Africans

8 Taíno (Native Americans) The history and development of Puerto Rican cuisine began with the Taínos Taíno were mostly farmers and Fishermen Popular Taíno food includes: Cassava / Yucca Peppers Maize / Corn Papaya Beans

9 Spanish Influence The Spaniards brought many new ingredients like spices, vegetables and animals Popular Spanish foods includes: Cilantro Rice Chick Peas Onions Garlic Animals like chicken, beef and pork

10 African Influence Finally Africans contributed many new flavors that make Puerto Rican food famous Popular Africans foods and flavors includes: Coconuts Bananas / Plaintains Pidgeon Peas Coffee Okra Yams

11 Cultural Influences The combination of the three cultures make the food very delicious Also the combination makes the people very beautiful Me My Mother My sisterMy Grandpa
