Fiber Optic Communications

Benefits of Fiber Optics Immunity to electrical interference Immunity to ground loops Longer transmission distance Secure communications Causes no sparks Water and corrosion resistance Greater bandwidth capacity Lighter weight; smaller diameter

Infinova Key Advantages Industry’s highest optical budget for longer runs Industry’s widest optical dynamic range—greater installation flexibility without over-driving (saturating) receivers without attenuators Industry’s highest racking density—typically two to three times as many channels per rack space compared to competitors Re-configurable between stand-alone and rack mount—units used for small system or pilot project need not be discarded when scaling up SMT-based, compact modules/cards 18-slot subrack w/ 250W switching power supply Hot-swappable card units Integrated auto-reset chemical fuses No user optical adjustments FM and Digital transmission systems

Design Considerations Is the fiber already installed? Is it Multimode or Singlemode? If brand new install, what are maximum distances? If Video is transmitted, are cameras on poles or is configuration building to building? Video’s high bandwidth, requires a star (home run) configuration PTZ may be done on the same fiber – also star configuration Data for Access Controls is either star or daisy chain, product offered includes redundant self-healing ring configuration on two fibers Multimode vs. Singlemode MM = LED Based 0-3 Km, 2 Mi SM = Laser Based 0-60Km, 37 Mi

Design Considerations Cameras on pole require stand alone modem transmitter Video and PTZ data may be on 1 or two fibers In a building to building, use rack to rack configuration 4 Video multiplexed on 1 fiber is less costly than 4 separate video transmitters and saves 3 fibers Install cost of 12 fibers is same as 24 fibers – think spares In brand new install, it is better to divide risk between electronics and optical cable. Example: specify 4 video mux on 1 fiber vs. 8 video mux on 1 fiber When specifying 4 video mux with PTZ data, only 1 data is required. Since domes are addressed by keyboard, data may be daisy-chained on copper or a code distributor may be installed remotely
