With a lot of her work she always reinforces the important part that each individual plays in preventing health disparities. Recently she played a key role in partnering with us, to be sure that families (who normally overlook the need for flu shots) took steps to lessen their chances of getting the flu. Although we knew that members of her church were insured and already had received flu shots, she was still willing to reach out into the community to service the uninsured, who had not been immunized. Her great commitment was shown when she decided to schedule the shots the same day as their annual holiday event for low- income families. While attendees were enjoying a free meal, lots of free gifts, and other fun-filled activities, we were able to put the “icing on the cake” by partnering with Walgreens and providing free flu vaccinations. Of the more than 30 underserved adults who received the shots, each received a DVD that gave them “how-tos” on being healthy. A gentleman from the Advisory Neighborhood Commission, after getting his free vaccine, told me how pleased he was that Renee Few arranged to have the service brought to the families, as opposed to waiting for them to go and get the service on their own. Knowing the abundant work that Renee Few does helping to prevent health challenges, among minorities, she definitely merits my recommendation. She is indeed a tireless and compassionate worker. I have been acquainted with her for over sixteen years and have participated in activities that she directed as head of our women’s ministry. Rev. Few’s passion for promoting better health in the faith community cannot go unmentioned. At First Baptist Church, she has structured health education program that catered to the needs of our multi-generational congregation, from teens to mature adults, as well as seniors. One of her presentations to the attendees of our senior citizens’ center, “Keep That Brain Working,” served as a wonderful motivation to the participants to remain active. For teens, she developed a six-week class to help them understand sexuality from a Christian, Biblical perspective. With great enthusiasm, Renee Few has helped youth increase their confidence and self-esteem through preparation for public speaking opportunities and oratorical contests. Rev.
