Mockingjay Book By: Suzanne Collins Presentation By: Ava Yurko
The Summary Mockingjay is the 3 rd book of the Hunger Games series. Katniss Everdeen, the main character, finds herself “breaking out” of the Quarter Quell and the Game isn’t over! Katniss is in district 13 with her Mom, her Sister, and Gale, while Peeta is captured and tortured by the capitol! Katniss finally agrees to be the “mockingjay”- the face of the rebellion against the Capitol.
More of the Summary Katniss films documentaries of bombings occuring in the districts and sends them to the Capitol. Finally district 13 get’s Peeta back from the capitol (with Johanna Mason). However, Peeta has been “hijacked” by the Capitol, and hates Katniss. Katniss is really confused, because Gale likes her and she doesn’t know if she likes him.
More of the Summary Gale makes decisions that Katniss think are wrong. For example: bombing a mountain that had innocent people in it from district 8. Katniss also dislikes the leader of district 13, Coin. Coin orders Peeta, who is still “hijacked”, to kill Katniss later on. A special group of sharpshooters, which include Katniss, Gale, Finnick, and Peeta, head to the Capitol to kill President Snow. Katniss suspects Coin’s plan to kill her.
More of the Summary Then the group is suddenly attacked, and forced to dodge traps, called pods, setup by the Capitol. Some members of the group die as they get closer and closer to the president. Peeta, who remains “hijacked” soon realizes he is a danger to the group. Peeta now thinks he should end his life, but of course, the group won’t let him.
More of the Summary The group escapes the capitols mutations for as long as possible in the underground tunnel under the capitol. Unfortunately Finnick dies. The 5 people left then run to President Snow’s mansion, because Katniss wants to kill Snow. Then bombs go off. The story has a good ending. I won’t spoil it for you. I hope if you haven’t read this book, you will.
Why I read it I read this book because I had read The Hunger Games, and Catching Fire, and Mockingjay is the third book of the series. I wanted to see how the story ended. I also read it because a bunch of people in our class have read it, and they said it was good.
Why I think others should read it If you like action, suspense, and you can’t wait to turn the page, then I recommend this book for you. I also think this book reminds us that we would never want the Hunger Games in our society. Where You Can Find It: You can find it in book stores and online.
