2 Haven for Hope San Antonio Texas Inspired by business and civic leader Bill Greehey after he watched a documentary on San Antonio’s homelessness that aired on a local TV station.

4  Is the largest, most comprehensive Homeless Transformation Campus in the U.S.A.  The Campus is made up of 15 Buildings, on 37 Acres, with almost a half a million square feet of service space under roof.  Has a network of service provision with 78 non-profit and government Partner Agencies  SACD Clinic  UTHSCSA Dental School Haven for Hope Campus San Antonio, Texas

8 SACDC San Antonio Christian Dental Clinic  In existence for over 21 years  Charitable dental care to uninsured adults in San Antonio  Provide preventive & restorative dental services  Volunteer Private practitioners  Moved to Haven for Hope in 2008  Provide most of supplies needed  Heroes for Homeless Sel. 2008-2011  Required rotation AY 2011-12  Students treat HFH members  AGD Residents Rotation AY 2012-2013

9 Methodist Health Care Ministries support  In 2011, MHM funded the conversion of the existing dental radiology system to a digital system at SACDC  Facilitated UTHSCSA-DS dental student training rotations  MHM-UT Also provides support for operational cost/ hardware

12 Competencies  Opportunity to structure to incorporate Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards and competencies  In addition to restorative and surgical procedure evaluation:  Special needs patients  Patient management  Communication skills  Cultural competency

13 Clinic Schedule  Group of 3-4 students for one week duration  7 sessions / week  Six faculty provide coverage throughout week  Director 50% coverage  Others cover one clinical session each  AGD Residents/Faculty - 1 day/week  3 Books  UT Student  AGD  Volunteer DDS

14 Schedule  Work around busy volunteer dentist days  Students attend lectures Wednesday mornings  AEGD residents are also there on Tuesdays  OMS, Endodontics  HFH facility tour and reflection Friday afternoons
